For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films. Now, with Cinema Speculation, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for. Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.

As a species, humans are genetically-programmed to rely on subconscious, physical cues to determine who we can trust and who we should avoid. These cues include: eye contact, facial expressions, vocal intonation, and body language. Blog posts and other written content don't convey these cues. Neither do podcasts or other forms of audio. Video is the only medium that offers our prospective clients and customers a direct view into our human side. And when our videos are hosted online, they go to work for us 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

In this thought-provoking exploration, Matthew May defines elegance as the elusive combination of unusual simplicity and surprising power, and pinpoints the four key elements that characterize it: seduction, subtraction, symmetry, and sustainability. In a story-driven narrative that sheds light on the need for elegance in design, engineering, physics, art, urban planning, sports, and work, May offers a surprising array of stories that illustrate why what's "not there" often matters more than what is.

Story
Three short years ago, when Chris Brogan and Julien Smith wrote their best seller, Trust Agents, being interesting and human on the Web was enough to build a significant audience. But now, everybody has a platform. The problem is that most of them are just making noise. In The Impact Equation, Brogan and Smith show that to make people truly care about what you have to say - you need more than just a good idea, trust among your audience, or a certain number of followers.

little gem
I won't claim to be coming from any level of experience, nor should I need to. I expected very little from this and got wowed. It actually is exactly what I needed to hear. If any statement could be applied the viewpoints of what one may wish to call common sense, then this will support or contrast your views. Many of the points are not what I would imagine to be "common sense" and you'd waist plenty of internet search time trying to compile a how-to of such technique. If you are listening, you are bound to learn something. It's short and inexpensive - You're not going to lose your backside here, and I'm telling you... I really like it.

Great, but far too short
At just under 90 minutes, I thought the audiobook was far too short. Then, at the end, I understood why... it seems to be a precursor to a larger pitch complete with rates, etc. That said, it was one of the better editing related books I've encountered so far. If the author wrote another book I'd certainly consider it again, although it would have to be longer.

beginner no fluff
one of the reviewers said that there was a plug at the end. this is one of the softest plugs that I've ever seen the person offers to help you edit video for free. I liked reading this and I'll be listening to it again there was no fluff. it is very basic material what cuts you use in what sequences how to think about doing multiple music tracks and cutting them together and it's a little on the basic side but you knew that because it's only an hour and a half long.
there is a lightning round of editing tips in the epilogue and in it there are things like buy a better computer, get a faster hard drive, organize your files, name your files, and set yourself a time limit for how long you're going to spend on each project.
