About this listen

A post-apocalyptic pandemic novel set in the Pacific Northwest that is unlike any other. The main character is an introverted recluse who tries to survive. He is computer-smart, but the internet and computers have died. He must change.

This audiobook is purposefully different from the norm of the genre in that it centers more on the people and how they develop. There is no sexual content, and the violence is not graphic or prolific. At the end, hopefully, listeners will feel better and enjoy the book so much that they will instantly download 10 more of my books.

Written before Covid-19. Hard to believe.

Not all apocalypses are the same

The narrator was a good match to the story. However, I listened to the book at 10% speedup. overall, the story was entertaining. For once, it was satisfying to hear a book with an ending where not all the people involved turned into savages. The main character stayed in character throughout the entire book. I heartily recommend this book.

Character driven apocalyptic story

A believable story about the first weeks after 90% of the population succumbs to a flu. The accidental hero makes his way out of his parents basement and into his own. The narrator enhances the humor and irony of the story. Read this if you want to feel better about the possibility of life as we know ending!

Whew

Well, this is either some of the worst writing I've heard in a while, or some of the best.

My main reason? While nothing inappropriate happens, the way the 24m character describes his 14 year old female 'friend' is creepy and gave me lolita/grooming vibes.

Was the character written in such a way that the character is actually creepy and it's not poor writing is certainly possible, I just honestly don't know which it is.

So, either the writer made the character purposely very creepy, or he was written poorly enough that it comes off that way.

Also the ending kinda had me like 'wtf?'
