About this listen

With the monsters of old wiped out, Daniel and Tina of Hyde, Inc., face a greater foe—from beyond the stars.

Whatever happened to all the old monsters?

The vampires, the werewolves, the ghouls—Daniel and Tina Hyde wiped them out, to make the world a safer place. But nature abhors a vacuum, supernature even more. Something has got to fill the gap left by all those monster clans. The question now is, what happened to all the old aliens, the Martians, the Bug-Eyed Monsters, the Reptiloids, and the Greys?

They’re coming out of the shadows with a vengeance, and Daniel and Tina Hyde are about to discover that there are much worse things than monsters. Fortunately, the Hydes love a good fight.

Daniel and Tina are in for the fight of their lives, with the whole world at stake.

A great story. Strong character layering and good pace. The biggest issue is there was not enough aliens to punch and defenistrate.

Business as usual

This author’s formula is worse than ever. It’s cookie cutter. It’s paint by numbers. Every series is an overpowered white guy with his unhinged, femme fatale partner meeting an allegedly overpowered villain one second, and defeating them the next. He peaked at his Nightside series.

Shampoo Rinse Repeat

The story was bland and repetitive. It was like listening to a video game walk through. 1) locate the enemy, 2) conduct a raid, 3) return home to be healed, 4) repeat. There was very little story or character development. At almost any given chapter, you could just substitute the name of the enemy the main characters were fighting and you wouldn't miss out on anything in the plot. There were times I fell asleep or walked away from my device and left the story playing. When I came back, the characters had moved on, but for the difference in the name of the group they were fighting, it was just a repeat of the previous chapter. Very dull. I would have shut it down and moved on to another title if I weren't such a fan of Simon R. Green. I finished the title out of a sense of duty rather than enjoyment.
