About this listen

Ed Kennedy is an underage cabdriver without much of a future. He's pathetic at playing cards, hopelessly in love with his best friend, Audrey, and utterly devoted to his coffee-drinking dog, the Doorman. His life is one of peaceful routine and incompetence, until he inadvertently stops a bank robbery.

That's when the first ace arrives in the mail.

That's when Ed becomes the messenger.

Chosen to care, he makes his way through town helping and hurting (when necessary), until only one question remains: Who's behind Ed's mission?

Critic reviews

"Zusak succeeds brilliantly." (Booklist)
"Zusak's characters, styling, and conversations are believably unpretentious, well conceived, and appropriately raw. Together, these key elements fuse into an enigmatically dark, almost film-noir atmosphere." (School Library Journal)

LOVE

I loved loved this book. After only reading the Book Thief by Zusak, I wasn't sure what to expect, as is sometimes the way when you fall in love with one title from an author, then to be a bit disappointed by another. Not the case here. I loved the story, the journey, the message. Funny, inspiring, endearing, I will definitely go back to it again.

Superior Reader and Excellent Story

I honestly can't decide which impressed me more, this or The Book Thief. Truly an entertaining story.

The voice of the reader is an excellent addition as well. There are a lot of great books that don't measure up in audio form because the reader doesn't capture the heart of the character. This is not one of those. Thoroughly impressive from start to finish.

Accents make every story better

This is a good story. It's not excellent, but it's full of feel good stories and a man that speaks with an excellent Australian accent. I love the authors descriptions of character and scenes and the comedy throughout really helps keep the book alive.

An easy listen

I enjoyed this book but not as much as The Book Thief by Zusak. The book became very predictable. I would not waste a credit on this one unless you can't find anything else to listen too.

Taking Risks

This was a clever story that constantly left me arriving to my driving destination too soon. I constantly wanted find out what would happen next. Then, as with all great books, when it ended, I wanted the story to continue.

Awesome book and great reader!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, and have already done so. It is a great storyline and I loved the narration by Gray. He had a way of making me believe Ed was right in my ears.

Which scene was your favorite?

Any scene with the Doorman in it. I love dogs, and this one was particularly fun to imagine talking back to Ed

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moments Ed had with the older lady were very touching...reminded the listener how human Ed was...reminded you he was a good guy.

Any additional comments?

Get this one. Well worth it.

An excellent book!!! The author is brilliant!

This book was amazing. It is one of the top 10 books the I have ever read. Of course I listened to it. Oftentimes I don't finish a book. I did this one. This book is funny, sad, full of suspense, keeps the readers attention. Finally it ends with an encouraging message. I'll definitely read it again.
