About this listen

A special movie tie-in edition of David Levithan's New York Times best-seller, now a major motion picture starring Angourie Rice of Spiderman: Homecoming and The Nice Guys - in theaters February 23, 2018!

Every day a different body. Every day a different life. Every day in love with the same girl.

There's never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere. It's all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin's girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply. Because finally A has found someone he wants to be with - day in, day out, day after day. But can Rhiannon love someone who is destined to change every day?

"Wise, wildly unique." (Entertainment Weekly)

"A story that is always alluring, oftentimes humorous and much like love itself--splendorous." (Los Angeles Times)

I wasn't ready for it to end!

If you could sum up Every Day in three words, what would they be?

Unique. Interesting. Bittersweet.

What other book might you compare Every Day to and why?

I really don't have a book to compare this too. I enjoyed the how it was unique. I've never read a book with a similar plot.

Which character – as performed by Alex McKenna – was your favorite?

"A" was my favorite. Not only because he was the main character but because the voice was perfect. It could go for either male or female. "A" had so many emotions for each life he or she lived.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book but it did leave me wondering about the characters. It felt incomplete, like there should be a sequel to it or just more to this story. I definitely wasn't ready for it to end.

A Story Needed To Be Told Especially Now

What a wonderful and unique find. This story of a person inhabiting a different body every day, goes way beyond the usual.

Truly an insightful treatise on society's perceptions of gender. Beautifully integrated into a fascinating story of all the different sixteen year olds that we meet as "A" moves into and out of each one.

The love story wore a bit thin for me, but clearly it was meant also as the underlying message of what it means to really know and love someone.

The narrator was a perfect choice with her gravelly voice and female tone sensibilities.

Any questions as to where A came from or how this condition occurred are passed over. The questions were never answered except briefly toward the end with the character of the pastor, which was a bit jarring to the story.

Intriguing as that was, the strength of this book lies with its powerful emotional message. Which, by the way, in light of recent violent events, resonates even more profoundly.

Wonderfully Written Book

This was a beautiful story. I saw the trailer for the movie coming out for this a week or so ago and I decided I had to listen to the book. A was an incredibly caring person who, in my opinion, deserved love. Not going to spoil the ending for anyone. If you’re on the fence about listening to this book you should go ahead. A story this good should not go unheard.

Most Interesting Concept

What made the experience of listening to Every Day the most enjoyable?

Very rarely a story comes along that really makes you think about things differently. This is that story. My measurement for this criteria is, "The Time Traveller's Wife" which I read years ago. This was that story...one that I could not put down!!! The story is crafted so well and draws you in immediately. The strongest part of this book - for me - was the many small stories scattered throughout about the different lives the main character "A" enters. They are fleeting, varied, but often quite interesting and touching.

Who was your favorite character and why?

"A" was my favorite character as he did struggled through adapting to being a different person every single day when he woke up.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator for this Audible story was horrible. While the woman reading the story had a husky voice, I felt a masculine one would have been more appropriate.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My reaction was extreme. I think the author did a great job with the topic. I have recommended this story to many others as it is so totally unique. There was a bit more homosexual orientation that could have been omitted. Otherwise, the story was fantastic!

Any additional comments?

If there was ever a book which would make for a great book club discussion, this would probably be it. The range of opinion would quite possibly be vast. People who tend to want specifics for every detail would pick everything apart, while the dreamers would want to imagine how to change the situation.

Every day

What if every day you woke up as someone else? You never had a set body and could never have a meaning relationship. This is the case for A. A has never been able to have a family or love of their own. Until one day A falls in love. A breaks the loop of pretending to be someone they’re not and fights to have the first meaningful relationship as their own person. The only problem is A only gets one day in each body.
Overall this was a great story and I definitely recommend reading it. I don’t recommend the movie though. They completely changed the story from the book.
