About this listen

Rose has been missing since she was fourteen years old. With no memory of who she was or where she was from, she was diagnosed with amnesia and placed in a foster home far away from her actual family, unaware of their relentless attempts to find her. When she starts to remember her origins, forty years have passed. Her homecoming becomes an intense opportunity for her and her family to unearth the reasons for her disappearance.

What actually did occur to set off her amnesia? How did she become so disconnected from her home, leaving her mother bereft and with no clues that shed any light on how she vanished or why?

Through a series of intense family meetings between spouses and siblings and step-family members across three generations, "I don’t remember when I died" explores a gambit of life issues, including death, aging, loss, parenting, the connections between siblings, and the everlasting family dynamics. At its core is an exploration of the keeping of family secrets and its ramifications.

We pulled down this audio book for a cross country drive. We were really pleased we did. The book was so compelling and engaging it absolutely made time fly on the road. The story is well woven and the family’s characters cleanly drawn.
This is a mystery so I don’t want to give too much away, suffice it to say that I believe the author’s background as a psychological professional adds a tremendous depth and eloquent insight into the profound layers of this thoughtfully crafted chronicle of a family profoundly impacted by a decades long mystery which has altered the course of all of their lives.

An engaging mystery
