About this listen

As I saw my newborn baby’s face for the first time, I tried desperately to capture her face in my mind - to stamp it onto my eyelids. As she was taken from me, I knew I might never see my daughter again.

Thirty-seven years later... 'You were adopted'. Three short words and Sabina’s life fractures. There would forever be a before those words and an after.

Pregnant with her own child, Sabina can’t understand how a mother could abandon her daughter or why her parents have kept the past a secret. Determined to find the woman who gave her away, what she discovers will change everything, not just for Sabina but for the women who have loved her all these years.

From the best-selling author of Me Without You comes another touching, beautifully told story about the pain of separation and the enduring strength of love.

The story was sad and a fascinating look as what happens when people act so very selfishly!

Such a timely topic -especially for America!

This is based on the factual situation of forced adoptions - it is heart-breaking and illuminating.

Sabina learns in her 30s, when expecting her first child, that she was adopted at birth. The book traces the experiences of her birth mother and her adoptive mother, and is told in rotating chapters by all three women. Well done and absorbing.

Eye-Opening

This is my 3rd book by Ms. Rimmer and honestly, it keeps getting better. She describes emotions really really well. It’s impressive. And i feel pulled in and can see all points of view. I’m so impressed with her.

I enjoyed this book. As an adoptee myself, I related to it on a personal level. Vanessa is a good narrator. It might’ve been effective to have different ones like in another story I enjoyed by Kelly Rimmer, since each chapter switches from one character to another. I look forward to picking out another one soon.

Wonderful story

A wonderful account of the joys and heartbreak of parenting a child that two families lived through. Forced adoption in Australia and probably all over the world.

A spectacular story that did happen!
