Publisher's summary

It's Christmas week in Aspen, and the beautiful are out party by day on the magnificent slopes of Aspen, by night at whatever exclusive holiday fate is on tap. Among the revelers is Regan Reilly, a bright young private investigator who has come from L.A. to ski and celebrate with her parents and their rich Aspen friends. It ends up being a busman's holiday for Regan, who gets swept up in art theft intrigue after some multimillion-dollar paintings are stolen from her parent's friends. The thieves continue to elude capture, but Regan is on their trail. She's up against time, though, as the clock ticks down to Aspen's biggest party of the season—at which the town's most valuable painting of all will be unveiled.

Another great cozy mystery series

This book is set at Christmas time, so making it a perfect holiday read.

Ethan a reformed jewel thief, who now works as care taker for a well known actress in Aspen, Colorado.

One night when he had a bit much to drink he runs into a former fellow inmate and gives him the grand tour of the property, which his friend then decides to kidnap Ethan to rob the place and to frame Ethan for the crime.

Unfortunately for our villain, Regan Reilly happens to be a guest in Aspen and thru a turns
of events gets involved in catching the villain.

I loved the scenic descriptions, the humor and the mystery factor as well as some of the slightly exaggerated characters.

Treasure's can be found anywhere

What was one of the most memorable moments of Iced?

When the mother is reunited with her twins after fifty years.

Which character – as performed by Carol Higgins Clark – was your favorite?

Not bad at all. Most readings by the authors falls short not the case with Ms Clark.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

All is not what it seems.

Any additional comments?

This is a light story not heavy, deep or graphic. Just a nice story that makes you relax and listen.

The story was interesting but...

I'm sorry Carol, but the narration made it less enjoyable. The story was good though.

An amusing romp

I really enjoyed picking this book up and reading it. It was an interesting little adventure story with these characters. I enjoyed trying to unspool the mystery of who the various people were and their motives. the ending had a fun sweet quality. I really think the author, Carol Higgins Clark, was trying to capture the feel of those old movies like the Thin Man full of snappy dialog and indolent amusement. I think she largely captured the feeling and that made the book charming.

There were parts I disliked and characters I found frustrating, the old woman at the center of the story irritated me, but none of that was a deal breaker and they are quibbles.

I do think considering how snappy the book is written that Carol Higgins Clark isn't the best reader. She does a good enough job and the recording quality is good. It's just that voice acting isn't her strongest quality. The voices of the various characters bleed together and she has a flat delivery for the dialog. I don't think that serves the story. A part of me thinks this series would be well served if they hired someone like Kate Forbes or Kate Reading to do the job and remaster the series. This isn't to say it is a deal breaker, she does a decent job, just that it could be better.

Overall it is nice to have a mystery like this that was entertaining and amused me. I am very likely to read the rest of the series.
