About this listen

Cassie Palmer is the Pythia, chief seer of the supernatural world. John Pritkin is a half demon and a legendary war mage. Mircea Basarab is a first-level master vampire and the general of the World Vampire Senate. Each is formidable enough alone. But they recently discovered that, together, they are far more than the sum of their parts. With their power combined through a perilous spell, they are the closest thing left on Earth to one of the ancient gods.

That comes in handy, considering that the old gods are exactly what the supernatural community is currently fighting. But now, their triumvirate has been torn apart. Mircea and Pritkin are lost in Faerie, with Mircea pursuing a personal mission five hundred years in the making. Meanwhile Cassie finds herself facing down an ancient adversary on her own. To survive, the three must find a way to come together, even worlds apart, and take their union to a new level.

Contains mature themes.

The narration starts off like a computer text to voice reader but gets Better

I’ve listened to this series anew every time a new book comes out. I understood why the main character, at first bumbled around without a clue, but she’s doesn’t seem to learn or understand anything still, and we are on what book now? And what happened to Thomas?
Still like the books because it’s kinda hilarious to see how low her IQ can drop yet still find a way out of what ever hijinks she puts herself in. Not digging the new narrator though.

I enjoy the series but, it’s starting to get annoying.

I could not get past the first 10 minutes. TERRIBLE "reading". Decided to just read this one myself.

Poor AI read for an otherwise great story

I’m sure the story is amazing as I’ve loved this series but I can’t get past the horrible narration and quit listening.

Worst narrator ever

I honestly don't know if I can finish listening to this book. I adore this series and have listened to the so many times. I didn't really believe it was possible for any narrator to ruin it. How wrong I was. All of subtle nuances of tone that both previous narrators brought to the story and characters are just gone. The narration was just DRY and boring and there is nothing boring about any of Karen Chance's books. I will have to stick with reading this one and the next and hope that a new narrator is chosen for future books.

Horrible narration!

A number of problems here. First and foremost, if this is a real reader and not a computer…she’s awful. The reader sounded like Siri. In addition, this book doesn’t really have a complete story. The typically amusing details Chance always provides seem to make up the entire book. It would be nice to have more of a story, too.

Meh

The narrator of the previous book had inflection and intonation. This one infuses absolutely no character into the book. It’s a struggle to listen to, honestly. And I’m scared she narrates the second part.

Not sure I can finish this.

narrator talks super slow and her voice goes down at the end of every sentence. if this was the first book in the series i wouldn't have continued listening to the series.

i almost didn't listen

I love this series. I’m so thankful that Karen Chance decided to self publish and keep the series going. BUT The narrator is awful. I will probably start reading the series instead of getting the audiobooks if this narrator continues. Usually I can get used even an average narration after an hour or two into the story but her pacing was strange almost like she was reading a math text book instead of a novel. There were a few moments where I thought she was getting into the story and was going to put in more effort but she’d go right back to reading like she was bored. Monotone and the same voice for Pritkin and Mircea actually pretty much the same voice for every male character. I don’t think she did any research into the characters before she started her narration. Audible should allow us to rate narrators too.

Loved the story but

I've had this book for months and I can't get passed chapter 5. Listening to this narrator is akin to robot hell. I've tried speeding it up. I've tried slowing it down. Nothing in my control can teach this narrator inflection, emotion, or anything that isn't strictly monotone. I'm going to have to return this one and hope for a better rendition for book 12.
