-
Story
Over the past 50 years, rates of autoimmunity and chronic disease have exploded. In this provocative book, Dr. Thomas Cowan argues for a direct causal relationship to a corresponding increase in the number of vaccines American children typically receive. The goal of these vaccines is precisely what we’re now seeing in such abundance among our chronically ill children: the provocation of immune response. Cowan looks at emerging evidence that certain childhood illnesses are actually protective of disease later in life.

HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Story
Beginning with opium, the “joy plant,” which has been used for 10,000 years, Thomas Hager tells a captivating story of medicine. His subjects include the largely forgotten female pioneer who introduced smallpox inoculation to Britain, the infamous knockout drops, the first antibiotic, which saved countless lives, the first antipsychotic, which helped empty public mental hospitals, Viagra, statins, and the new frontier of monoclonal antibodies. This is a deep, wide-ranging, and wildly entertaining book.

Am I happy enough? This has been a pivotal question since America's inception. "Am I not happy enough because I am depressed?" is a more recent version. Psychotherapist Gary Greenberg shows how depression has been manufactured---not as an illness but as an idea about our suffering, its source, and its relief. He challenges us to look at depression in a new way.

Each of us will know physical pain in our lives, but none of us knows when it will come or how long it will stay. Today as much as 10 percent of the population of the United States suffers from chronic pain. It is more widespread, misdiagnosed, and undertreated than any major disease. While recent research has shown that pain produces pathological changes to the brain and spinal cord, many doctors and patients still labor under misguided cultural notions and outdated scientific dogmas.

Story
Happy Accidents is a fascinating, entertaining, and highly accessible look at the surprising role serendipity has played in some of the most important medical discoveries in the 20th century. What do penicillin, chemotherapy drugs, X-rays, Valium, the Pap smear, and Viagra have in common? They were each discovered accidentally, stumbled upon in the search for something else. In discussing medical breakthroughs, Dr. Morton Meyers makes a cogent, highly engaging argument for a more creative, rather than purely linear, approach to science. And it may just save our lives!

Story
One out of three women alive today, and one out of two men, will face a cancer diagnosis, according to the World Health Organization. Ty Bollinger takes this personally: in the course of a decade, he says, "I lost my entire family to cancer. I don't believe I had to lose them." The Truth about Cancer has been written for one simple reason: to share the knowledge we need to protect ourselves, treat ourselves, and in some cases save our lives or the lives of those we love.

On average, a physician will interrupt a patient describing her symptoms within 12 seconds. In that short time, many doctors decide on the likely diagnosis and best treatment. Often, decisions made this way are correct, but at crucial moments they can also be wrong: with catastrophic consequences. In this myth-shattering book, Jerome Groopman pinpoints the forces and thought processes behind the decisions doctors make.

My Personal Introduction To Homeopathy
I enjoyed this book very much. I have always been interested in Homeopathy because I wondered how people medically treated themselves and lived as long as they did. We're told in today's society that Allopathy is the best and ONLY viable means of medical treatment. After having read this book, I am convinced that we DO have a viable alternative. Its also another version of Affordable Healthcare. Please do NOT judge Homeopathy until you have read this book or another book on the subject. too many people out there tryto mislead you into being scared of Homeopathy. They also misinform you aout how the drugs in Homeopathy work or DON'T work.

Overview of homeopathy
Amy Lansky is a brilliant, extremely well educated woman who became a homeopath after she had an amazing experience with it in her own life. This seems to be a common experience among people who adopt homeopathy as a healing modality. Her book is ..." Easy on the ears". She, herself, reads the book, and the reader can feel the enthusiasm she feels for her chosen field.
In my experience, it is hard to become excited about something for the sake of money, fame or position. Amy loves this area because she has seen it change people's lives. Her excitement is infectious.
I have seen homeopathy work. I am a clinician, have been involved in research, and understand the draw of the unusual, or odd to some people. But when something works, it is hard to deny it. That is why Amy's book is so interesting, and exciting to listen to.

Excellent Introduction to Homeopathy
This book provides great answers to the questions “what is homeopathy”, “does homeopathy work,” and “how does homeopathy work”. A very informative listen. It is narrated by the author and not a professional however, and I found her speech a bit slow so I listened on 1.25 speed which worked well. Otherwise it’s a great book and should be read by anyone interested in learning about homeopathy.
