This book exceeded my expectations. I knew of Diane Guerrero from her roles in Orange is the New Black and Jane the Virgin and I wanted the chance to hear her story. I am so glad I got to listen to her tell her own story in her own voice. It is filled with touching ups and downs that show us why immigration reform is so crucial to the success of our country and the wellbeing of the people living here. It wasn’t a boring piece of non-fiction, but a colorful, dynamic recollection of her personal struggles. I see why her name is Guerrero, the Spanish word for warrior, because the is a strong and courageous fighter. Thank you, Diane Guerrero, for sharing your story.

Deeply moving account of a harrowing childhood. Extremely happy to see her use her lucky platform to effect much-!needed change. My only negative is that at times the writing didn't sound like Diane. You could feel her voice come through in some scenes, while during others her voice was subsumed by coauthor's tone and style.

The story itself was compelling, and it was amazing to listen to Diane Guerrero speak of her experiences, through her own voice inflection. The voice was definitely millennial though, as I had to wonder on occasion if she actually wrote some of her phrasing into the text version of the book-as her voice inflection as an interjection was the only thing that made some of it work.
