So, when the bones of a woman with a hole in her skull are discovered behind a derelict cottage, she immediately assumes the worst. Rallying her team, Lauren is flooded with a strange sense of relief when the bones turn out to be almost twenty years old, not a recent victim. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. Publisher's summary
A stunning new mystery thriller from the debut author everyone is talking about...
Anna hasn’t set foot in Glasgow for 10 years, for very good reason. When Anna, a criminology lecturer, does return to Glasgow from Rome, during the coldest winter in memory, tragedy strikes. While out with her best friend from school, Anna has a chance encounter with a former flame, Andrew, whom she later discovers dying on a blanket of snow.
She finds herself at the centre of the investigation as the star witness and embarks on her own investigation of the case. But Anna doesn’t realise the danger she is in and soon finds herself in trouble. When another body shows up who has links to the first victim, it appears that the motive may lie buried in the past.
As Anna gets closer to the truth, the killer closes in. Can she solve the gruesome mystery before the killer strikes again?

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Accent
Very difficult at times to understand the read with extremely overpowering thick accent. Seemed far fetched.

Poor pronunciation of relatively common words
Storyline was good and in the main, so was performance apart from appalling pronunciation of some words which really jarred and spoiled the enjoyment quite a bit .

In the Silence
I found this book to be very slow and confusing and the story not too cldar, but it had a beautiful ending and you got into it more at the end. The narration was good.
