About this listen

The atrocious but true story of slavery in the United States until the Civil War. It is the personal history of Harriet Jacobs and her enslavement and subsequent escape to the North, after spending seven years hidden in a crawlspace.

The stunned listener also gets to know of the mistreatment of the other slaves. We hear how slavery as practiced by the South was degrading to both blacks and whites. It shows the hypocrisy of many white Christians, who could sleep with their female slaves one day, and still see themselves as good Christians the next.©2017 Audioliterature (P)2017 Audioliterature

Compelling

If you never believed that slavery was oppressive you need to read this book. It is a horrible condition. What was done to them is unimaginable. Gone with the Wind this is not. No person should be owned. Bigotry is alive and well still today.

A Story to Remember

The story was intruguing and kept my attention. I had a hard time completing it as quickly I wanted to because I was listening to it rather than just reading it. The narrator did a great job and told the story clearly , letting me know the different thoughts and feelingd that Linda had throughout her journey which was emotional and very challenging .

life that never let 3
