About this listen

A monster has come to Maldus, Arkansas, and the residents of the small mountain town are too busy to notice. With the monster comes something even more terrifying and threatening than gnashing teeth or razor-sharp claws.

The monster has brought change.

The residents of the small mountain town are too busy to notice at first. Busy with things such as addiction, racism, work, or land deals. Unnoticed, the change the monster brings in its insidious wake spreads like wildfire. Unnoticed, the town of Maldus falls prey to an invasive species.

First off, if you enjoy Stephen King, you will probably enjoy this book. The author is clearly a King fan and the influence is pretty obvious.
I found the ending to be unsatisfying (like some King books I've read), but I suppose it is the journey that matters in tales like these. It's not bad or great, but okay.
Did I enjoy it? No, not really. It is either not my cup of tea or something was lacking to make it enjoyable. Still, I give it 4 stars for the effort.

I received this audiobook for free, and my review is voluntary.

I really liked this story. Ive only read or listened to a few werewolf stories and I have to say this is one of the better ones. I believe the narration helped bring the characters to life. If you like creature feature type book and shows you will enjoy this story.

Well done

At times the narrator wasn't the best but the story more than made up for it. I'd really recommend this newer horror author to any horror fan. My only complaint is it made me feel old. I'm not used to hearing references to Tim Burton or Leeeeeeeeroy Jennnnnnnkinnnnns in most the stories I listen too. but they were here. All and all its definitely worth a read / listen.

Amazing Story!

I enjoy a good werewolf story and since I grew up in Arkansas, I had to listen to this one. Also, S.W, Salzman is one of my favorite narrators, so what could go wrong?

The beginning of the book got lost in the racist rantings of some of the characters. I like have background on the characters, but I lot of the book focused on political and racist stuff that really didn't add anything to the story. It took way too long for the main part of the story to come out. When I read this type of book, I expect it to grab me right away. In this instance, I probably wouldn't have finished the book if not for the reason mentioned above.

Once the werewolves were fully introduced, the book became a lot like most zompoc books I have read with multiple gruesome killings and some good people being slaughtered. The narrator did a good job and kept my interest in this less than stellar book. I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

The author describes in graffic detail how an entire town turns into warewolves. excellent writing with detailed description. If you have a weak stomach don't even start listening.

The performance by S. W. Salzman adds to the horror of the story. I did, however, have to slow the speed down to listen.

Excellent

It's read badly. Too fast and with little to no tone. It took me 3 tries to start because it was a struggle to get used to the reader's flat performance. On the 3rd try I actually had to dial back the reading speed a bit, that helped and I suggest it. The story itself is both shocking and immersive. Some aspects of it could even be triggering for some people so listen at your own risk: there's a lot of gore, a character with severe racial hatred, and references to s*xual assault, as well as child m*lestation. The horror and the shock were truly the sharp edges of a very good story, however, with well developed characters, vivid imagery, and surprisingly, a mostly unpredictable plot. The werewolves were impressively designed and easily one of my favorite takes on a very classic criptid...also my absolute favorite criptid.
Spoiler Alert:
Warren Maxi can go directly to the deepest circle of hell. He was incredibly believably written, and very easy to wish death on right from the very beginning. F*ck that guy.

Difficult but Delicious

Hard to get past the narrator and the dialogue between the characters is pityfull and forced.

terrible dialogue

makes the whole town sound like racists and not enough werewolf. can't someone write some good old monster stories?

endless political and racist crap

The narrator reads as though he is listing ingredients form a cereal box. Almost no inflection and seems to not understand punctuation. Nearly a monotone voice that requires mental translation. I couldn’t even begin to evaluate the story because I had to concentrate on figuring out the narrative rather than listen to the story. Very disappointed.

Could not get past the first five minutes!
