About this listen

After returning from her father-in-law’s funeral in Florida, Lucy can almost hear the death knell of her part-time reporter job the instant she meets new hire Rob Callahan. He’s young, ambitious, and positioning himself to become the Pennysaver’s next star reporter. Adding insult to injury, Lucy only gets assigned the local St. Patrick’s Day parade once Rob passes on the story. But before beer flows and bagpipes sound, Rob becomes suspected of destroying more than other people’s careers....

It’s a shock when Rob is suddenly charged with sending a corrections officer from town to a fiery death. Contrary to the evidence, Lucy seriously doubts her office rival committed murder, and she’s willing to follow that nagging hunch into the darkest corners of the community if it means shedding light on the truth. As an unnerving mystery unfolds, a strange woman reveals news that could change everything for Lucy and her family. Troubles in her personal and professional life are colliding, and Lucy comes to realize that she’ll sooner discover a four-leaf clover than confront a killer with the gift of the gab and live to tell about it.

Leslie Meier does it again. Irish Parade is well written and enjoyable. She includes current and relevant issues of today without letting them take over the story or sound preachy. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series.

i thought introducing bill's half sister was too much, also didn't like the political

ROSIE'S review

The plot was great. It covered all the current events of the last year except Covid. police corruption, identity theft, elder abuse etc. I can't wait for the next one.

Great Plot

I read these stories to escape reality. Reading about corrupt cops and references to communism and elder abuse and BLM just made me miserable. I’m surprised Covid wasn’t also part of the plot. Isn’t this a cozy mystery? I’ve read almost all Lucy Stone mysteries and I’m a fan and this was a good book but I truly wish it was about something that didn’t give me anxiety.

Too political

A few of Meier’s holiday-themed novels actually have very little to do with the holiday. However, I loved that this one strongly focused on the Irish and St. Patrick’s Day. I liked the story, too. What seemed a little weird is that this is one of her newer books, but basic technology such as email, GPS, and cell phones are discussed almost like they’re an emerging technology. I actually thought maybe this was written in the early 2000s except for the political mentions are current. I’m not disagreeing or agreeing, but Meier did seem intent on covering lots of bases: LGBTQ, Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter, sex ed in schools, etc. So many potentially controversial topics in such a short book kind of came across as trying too hard, but I just enjoyed the story.

Actually revolves around St Patrick’s Day!

Long time fan of this series, but with every new book, Lucy gets hurt more severely. Please take us back to the escapism of Tinker's Cove and mysteries without Lucy almost losing life and limb.

Disappointing
