They say the best-kept secrets are hidden in the darkest places. I know that better than anybody… Because I'm one of them.

I spend my days locked in a black-market nightmare, held captive by a twisted mastermind who considers me his prized possession. My only form of human contact is with the victims in the next room, each of whom disappears faster than the last.

Everyone leaves… except me.

Then I hear him—Isaac. Brash, elusive, and haunted, he isn't anyone's idea of a hero. Separated by a wall, our faces hidden, his voice cuts through the darkness, becoming my only hope. He's driven by vengeance, bearing scars as dark as my own. Despite his rough edges, a fragile bond forms between us—a lifeline.

Isaac might be my best chance of escape, but time is slipping away. Breaking free will mean outrunning both our pasts, and in this twisted game, the cost of freedom may be more than we can afford to pay.

Appearances deceive. Choices have consequences.

And some consequences?

They are irreversible.

Narrated in duet style.

I don’t think there will ever be a Jennifer Hartmann book I don’t love—and Irreversible only confirmed that. It completely wrecked me in the best way.

If you loved Still Beating, this one will hit you hard too. While it has a similar emotional intensity and trauma-bonded connection, Irreversible stands firmly on its own. It’s a powerful story of two complete strangers—each dealing with their own darkness—who are brought together in the most unexpected way: divided by a wall, yet deeply connected through shared pain and raw, vulnerable conversations.

Jennifer Hartmann and Chelley St. Clair masterfully unravel these two broken people, layer by layer. Their trauma, their silence, their hope—it's all written so authentically and beautifully. You feel every ounce of emotion building between them, even before they ever see each other face-to-face.

The emotional intimacy in this book is next level. It’s quiet. It’s aching. It’s full of heartbreak and healing. You find yourself clinging to every word exchanged through that wall because you know it’s leading to something powerful—and it does not disappoint.

💥 And the spice? Absolute perfection. It wasn’t too much or too little—it was beautifully balanced, raw, and real. And let’s just say… Isaac did not disappoint. 😉

🎧 Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter were flawless in the narration. Every emotion, every pause, every whispered word was delivered with so much depth and nuance. Their performances pulled me in even further and made the story hit that much harder.

This book is haunting, heart-wrenching, and healing. It lingers in the best way—and it’s one I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

Everything about this story is top tier
Kidnapping, trafficking, redemption, connection.
I felt so much listening to this story. The characters backstories and feel of dread and doom every moment. The narration duo in this duet style is next level. It sounds like more than two people, they really portrayed every character perfectly. The timekeeper is the creepiest and it’s delicious. I can’t recommend this listen enough

So this is not my first book by Jennifer Hartmann, but it’s not my favorite. The reason being that I feel like it was too long. I feel like the story would’ve been told completely in half the time. That is just my opinion I feel like in a big portion of this book. I was drifting off and coming back to the story and finding out that really nothing had happened yet. I feel like the story would’ve been rounded out and told perfectly fine in 8 to 10 hours not 18 other than that I really liked the book the story was interesting and the idea was good. I just think that it didn’t have to drag for so long. There were chapters that had nothing to do with the story like they were so short why not put them in the previous chapter or the next one. Anyway that is my review on this book. Overall it was a good story just got boring in some parts cause it tended to drag on. The narration was phenomenal I love the duel narration I wish all audiobooks were like that.
