About this listen

"Occasionally, we all lack the courage to embrace the torture that is love."

Dylan

As a proud physiotherapist fresh out of school, I never imagined falling for a client. Especially not fallen football star, Lake Decker. His over-confident, broody attitude has me biting my tongue and doing whatever it takes to keep this job and support my secrets. Secrets Lake keeps pushing me to unravel.

Lake

I don't fall for women. Women fall for me. I'm Lake Decker, best running back in the league. Former. After a debilitating injury forced me to step back from my budding career, the last thing I thought I'd be doing was drooling at the feet of my stale-looking therapist. But her saucy attitude, strict professionalism, and the occasional shiner have my curiosities piqued.

One thing is certain, we both know how to act tough in the face of adversity, but at our core, we're nothing but a couple of cowards.

From author Jescie Hall comes a compelling and angst-filled love story that will pull at your heartstrings and never let go. Narrated in duet style.

Sweet story. Lake popular football player is incredible and kind. I felt Dylan was a bit overbearing at times. Too much drama. She is a wonderful sister and eventually loosens up. Teddy is amazing as usual. One of my favs. Dylan’s autistic brother Cullen (I think is his name) is precious and adorable. Overall a good story. There was a bit too much description of every thought. Sometimes you just want them to get to the point. I pretty much love all of Jescie Hall books. 📕

A bit long but sweet

I’m loving this author more with every book. Though I can’t comprehend the difficulty of taking care of someone to the degree that Dylan does, I do understand the love, and it was written so beautifully.

Loved

This is such a good story! Loved Lake and Dylan together fighting their way through to make things work. Two flawed individuals. Loved the autism rep and the narrator did such a fantastic tasteful job portraying Collin! All the narrators did a fantastic job and really brought this story to life!

Narrated in duet by Teddy Hamilton, Lee Daniels, and Devin Sanclemente—these three are absolutely amazing. Every tone, every emotion… everything flows seamlessly. Pure perfection.

Teddy’s delivery of Lake’s inner thoughts is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time.
Lee’s performance of Dylan’s wit, emotional and hilarious is flawless.
And Devin is incredible—his character, Colin, plays such a vital role in the story, and he brings him to life beautifully.

The story is messy, funny, deeply real—and so beautifully accurate in its portrayal of autism, grief, and healing. You’ll laugh, cry, and probably fall in love with everyone.

Read this. Hug your people. And bring tissues. Lots of them.

Emotional, Raw, and Unexpectedly Hilarious

normally, this authors books are intense, dirty and dark. this one is sweet, funny, dirty and touching. this author is showing her range. one of my favorite lines "those butterflies need rehab". in context will have you laughing out loud. my only critique is that Teddy's acting in the super emotional scene where Lake is crying uncontrollably, his acting is just not there. he was just normal. I know he has the range and ability. not sure why the director didn't make him do a retake. also, was this book 1 in a new series? or was that just a nod to her love of why choose romance? can we all talk a out Colin. how sweet was he. it was interesting that he was the older brother. this was just a refreshing book. I always enjoy this author but usually have to be in a certain mood. this book is for those times when I want something not so dark, but still with some emotional weight. good job.

such a sweet story. loved the ASD representation

I absolutely loved this book—the narration was phenomenal, bringing every emotion and moment to life. The story deeply resonated with me as a widowed mom of kids with autism. Dillon’s struggles as the sole caregiver, balancing the desire for a ‘normal’ life while fiercely protecting Colin, hit so close to home. It’s a raw, beautiful portrayal of the challenges and love that define this journey. Highly recommend!

I’ve never felt so seen listening to a book

This story was sooooo good. Lake and Dylan and Colin were so lovable. Autistic representation, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance between patient and PT.
Professional football player who was injured and a PT trainer who was known to get players back on the field quickly. She didn’t want to work with the arrogant nfl player but they couldn’t deny the attraction and when Lake discovered what Lake had been so scared to reveal, she gave him her heart.
Teddy Hamilton, Lee Rivers and Devin Sanclemente as Colin were perfect for the characters.
