About this listen

Dear Listener,

It is difficult for an author to choose a favorite from among her own books, especially when she has been lucky enough - as I have - to make a career out of doing what she loves. But some stories are memorable because they mark an important milestone in an author’s life, and for me, perhaps none is more special than Island Flame - my very first book. I was thrilled when it was published, and now, more than thirty years later, I am just as excited to share it again with you.

Island Flame is a classic tale of romance on the high seas, featuring two extraordinary characters: the headstrong Lady Catherine Aldley and the legendary pirate Jonathan Hale. I don’t have to tell you that their tumultuous escapade sizzles with passion (lots of passion!), but what I hope you will take away most from Cathy and Jonathan is that dreams do come true - in love and in life. Mine did, and I hope yours will too.

I look forward to sharing many more adventures together in the future.

Enjoy!

Karen Robards

This would be a good mini series

***Spolier Alert...This book is layered with so much complexity in this compact package. I think the psychology of it could be broken down into a good mini series. The female character is a unreliable narrator so its hard to properly gauge the aggressive sex scenes because we only get them from her POV and she eventually admits her willingness after she has accused him if rape.He is a person with a broken past so he is quick to always think the worst of her and resorts to treating her horrible to ease his own hurt feelings. Sad to say it was a excellent example of how disfunctional relationships can be. Beside the delay in them getting to the truth...I enjoyed it

Wowwwwwwwwww

This book was one of the best (top 10 books) I have every listened to on audible. Loved both characters, Cathy and John; however, cruel in the beginning John became the lovable adoring hero in the end; Cathy was determined, dedicated yet naïve at times......... but their love endured. I cannot understand where the Island flame title came from; they were only on the island for 1-2 chapter s. What is going on with the book’s cover page, Cathy is blonde not a red head.

Enjoyed.

I enjoyed this book I think it was kind of rough and some things done by the hero were bad but over all it was a good listen. Love the narrator

If you’re a fan of Johanna Lindsay you’ll love Karen Robards!!!

This book is great! I’m a huge fan of pirates, love and kidnapping! Brutally harsh at times but love at the base...which always makes for a great story! Love, love, this book! Enjoy!

Sex and violence why isn't it on HBO

Rough and passionate with some adventure that's all I wanted when I went in search of a pirate novel and that's what I got, so I am not disappointed. I am going to tell you if your a fair maiden and like slow wooing, sexual tension, the frustrations of a gentleman and true love don't read this book. He is a pirate raping and pillaging is kinda their M.O. She wasn't coddled and he didn't take his time with her. They were both abusive to each other and the plot had some pit falls. I must have missed something, because she somehow she got love to grow out of nothing. It went from raping, rescue to total love. I think her love for him stemmed from Stockholm syndrome which is fairly realistic and probably why most of the women who commented about this book didn't like it. I feel like this book missed a romance novel ingredient and it wasn't the domestic violence that made the novel fall short. Still, it was interesting enough and fallowed a smutty pirate novel formula so I am not complaining.

Filled with physical, verbal and emotional abuse!

I love a good historical romance - does not have to be heavy on plot but this "hero" is not one. He is a violent, abusive man who calls the "heroine" horrible names and physically assaults her. Not a favorite at all.

Mixed feelings

The story held my interest even though I find John to be nothing more than a rapist and a brute. Kathy's biggest fault was that she fell in love with the creep.
