Story
Growing up in a remote part of Alaska, Ivan and September Crane know that autumn is an unpredictable season - days of clear blue skies can give way to fierce, sudden storms in a blink. They know the trouble signs: changes in the wind, the temperature, or even the color of the dawn. But somehow, this time, left alone when their fisherman father is delayed at sea, even their keen sense of their surroundings and the lessons they've been taught fail them.

It was a name that caused the most hardened gunmen to break out in a cold sweat: Texas Ranger Chick Bowdrie. Pursuing the most wanted men in the Southwest, he knew all too well the dusty trails, the bitter cattle feuds, the desperate killers, and the quiet, weather-beaten towns that could explode into mayhem with the wrong word. He had sworn to carry out the law, but there were times when he had to apply justice with his fists and his guns.

Story
As Norman contemplates a long and lonely adolescence on the Last Frontier, he's sure there's more to life than being the klutziest kid in Alaska. In 15 closely linked stories that follow Norman from age 13 to going-on 16, Tom Bodett combines rugged Alaskan adventure with a warm and funny story of a boy who may not be as lonely as he thinks.

A great collection of stories
Tom Bodett is the best story teller of our time. The collection was not a repeat of his "End of the Road stories."

Homespun Humor and Wisdom
His stories are the stories of THE PEOPLE, you know - US; most of us. The common man exploring the common world of work, family, loyalties, love, cooking, and a most unexpected story about the failure to continue a connection with those in need. Tom Bodett has a wonderful story telling voice. He opens his life and his mind and connects with those every day moments we all share, and some extraordinary ones as well. I have listened to his stories many times, and will continue to do so whenever I need to re-center myself with the knowledge that "we are all just spiritual beings having a human experience". I highly recommend this audible offering.

More addictive than potato chips. Totally enchanting!
I’ve listened to all Tom Bodett’s books. I love them. These are not like any other books. They are uniquely appealing in their lack of pretentiousness while packed with philosophical wisdom and just good fun.

Tom Bodett reads Tom Bodett
it is so great to hear Tom Bodett read his own stuff. It is hard to read his books without that voice and casual cadence in head. A collection of clever nuggets read by the author.
