Walter Scott was born in College Wynd in Edinburgh on August 15th 1771. Working as a poet, historian and biographer, Sir Walter Scott is traditionally regarded as the founder of the historical novel. His work shows the influence of the 18th century enlightenment and inspired writers such as George Eliot and the Brontës. Tolerance was a major theme in his historical novels. He believed that every human was basically decent - regardless of class, religion, politics or ancestry. Sir Walter Scott died on September 21st 1832 in Abbotsford, Roxburgh, Scotland.

Nigel Graham was born in Australia. Moving to London in 1959 he worked in many theatres round the country and in London’s West End. Television appearances included such popular series as Coronation Street and Z Cars. He has a long association with BBC radio and for many years he has been increasingly drawn towards Audio Books and has so far recorded more than 200 books.
