About this listen

authentic and raw

Poignant and evocative novel that captures the rawness of human emotions in the face of devastating political and personal upheaval. Set against the backdrop of post-colonial Africa, the book is a stirring exploration of identity, loss, and the complexities of belonging. Faye's writing is intimate and visceral, creating a world that feels as if it’s lived rather than written, and the narrative pulses with the authenticity of lived experience.

Surpasses expectations/Surpasse les attentes

This book is a testimonial of the Rwandan genocide, a horrific civil war event that must be documented for all of us to learn from and not repeat. But it is also a wonderful emotional account what it means to be uprooted, torn between two countries, a very sensitive account of friendships and of complex family relationships. The writing is rich, yet very fluid, Like its main character, its apparent simplicity conceals a deep and generous soul.
