About this listen

Aja Everett longs to turn her old family ranch into a place where anyone can find rest and healing. But her big heart's bound to get her in trouble if she's not careful - someone wants her gone, and they'll do whatever it takes to drive her away from the land that's her lifeblood. Whether she's willing to admit it or not, she needs help. She needs a man like Ranger Jackson Dean.

Jackson doesn't trust love. He once made the mistake of following his heart, and all he'd gotten was pain in return. But when city-slicking, do-gooder Aja Everett asks for his help, he can't stay away...and as attraction sizzles and protective instincts flare, she may be the only woman able to restore the heart of this Texas Ranger.

Get out your fans for this steamy contemporary romance that features a hunky Texas Ranger with trust issues and a confident, sexy full-figured heroine who believes the best of people. Sometimes oil and water are meant to mix.

A solid 4.5 🌟

WoW!! This was such a good book. The story and the depiction of the characters were excellent, but were truly brought to life by the narration of Eboni Flowers.
I liked that Jackson was suspenseful without being too angsty. It's a slow burn which is my only issue but I don't mind heat in the prologue so....🤣

JACKSON WAS SEXY

This book kept popping up in my feed and I'm glad I decided to listen to it. Aja is a strong and very independent woman. Jackson had his hands full with her. I like how they worked their way up to be romantic. Aja has such a good heart too. It takes a special person to want to help two special ladies and help them get back on their feet. So very admirable of Aja. But for she and Jackson, I love a good romance that's hot and heavy.
Eboni Snow did an awesome job narrating too! Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Deep In The Heart Of Texas!!!

Okay, hear me out. I can admit when I’m wrong and I was wrong about Jackson. I gave up on this book too quickly. It actually turned out to be really good. Now, it did take me a minute to get into this book and actually like the characters. But, when I did, I really enjoyed the book. Jackson was a sexy romance with a heavy dose of mystery and suspense. Someone wants Aja's land and they're willing to kill her to get it. After several mysterious mishaps at her ranch, Texas Ranger Jackson Dean works undercover as a foreman to figure out who wants Aja dead. There's an instant attraction between them but, they don't act on it because both of them are dealing with issues from their past. Aja and Jackson are strong, smart, stubborn characters, and their strengths mean they butt heads almost from the moment they meet. As I said before, the storyline is very much been there done that but, it was still enjoyable and held my attention. But, the book ended with more questions than answers. Matt was just the puppet so, who was the man behind the scenes pulling the strings?!!! He kept saying he was trying to protect Aja but, he never said who he was protecting her from and we still don't know who attacked her in her bedroom. If Eli Bennett is in jail, who else is gunnin' for Aja's land?!!! Ma'am, I need answers like yesterday! As someone who lives in Texas, I'm highly offended at the unnecessary thick accent the narrator used. I'm so over Hollywood, authors, and everyone else in the free world pushing this false narrative about us. Texans do NOT speak with a heavy Southern accent. Matter of fact, we don't have an accent at all. Please stop confusing us with people who live in Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and the Carolinas. While I initially did not like Jackson I'm glad I stuck with it because, in the end, I absolutely loved it. This was my first book by LaQuette and, as long as the rest of the books in this series feature BM and BW as the lead characters, you can definitely count me in.

Great love story..

I loved the fact that Jackson’s love interest is a sexy size 16. The twist and turns made me not want to stop listening.

Jackson

I like the idea of a black Ranger and a bad ass brilliant and beautiful lawyer rancher. With a heart of pure gold and love for others.

a lot of self flagellation

the plot is good although it ends with the mystery unsolved. however, the heroine is under sooo much unnecessary guilt that she seems to pretend at strength which I think wasn't the author's intent. the constant monolog of unworthiness is so bad at the end I nearly stopped the recording; you would think she killed babies from all that moaning and tears.

it does have a bit of history around Asia's family and rise from slavery to landowners and lawyers, but it's woven into the story instead of a side voice. the characters are overwhelmingly POC but not antagonistic to white people; it's simply a different viewpoint.

there is violence, Asia is attacked, buildings are burned, and overall a sense of danger, but the sex is vanilla and sweet and infrequent. overall theme is redemption ( with soul crushing guilt) and second chances.

Storyline was good. Very repetitive.

The storyline was original as well as the characters. I enjoyed that a lot. A lot of character information as well as the story was very repetitive. Some of the descriptives were unnecessary and overdone. The end of the book was an attempt at leaving an open for book 2. That book will need to come out swinging if they want me to care who is trying to kill Asia after 2 chapters.
