About this listen

A debut sexy romantic comedy about a woman getting her groove back and getting a second chance at love.

Vanessa Jared, a 40-something divorcée, decided that the best way to pull herself out of their post-divorce slump was to form The Savvy, Sexy, Singles Club and start the "Do Me" portion of her and her friends' lives.

But on the two-year anniversary, a sexy sheriff shows up on Vanessa's doorstep wanting her to help him keep his little sister from marrying her no-good ex. Vanessa is not down for this at all. She wants nothing to do with her ex...until she spots a photo of her ex's new fiancée wearing her grandmother's ring—which he clearly stole from her. So now it is on. Vanessa is ready to take this trifling (fill-in-the-blank) down. What she does not expect is to fall in love along the way.

This was a great book with wonderful relatable characters. I loved the sisterhood the main character had. The story delt with past trauma, dealing with Narcissist, and allowing fear to cause bad decisions at time. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves interracial romance books!!!

I L-O-V-E-D THIS BOOK.

Enjoyable. The story avoids implausible drama. I love a love story about real grownups (40+).

Lovable.

Thank you narrator for bringing this story to life! I enjoyed visiting this quaint little town with Vanessa. The menus sound fabulous and love is on the menu.

I loved this story and the fact that it was a diverse book! I discovered LaQuette from another book she had written and when this one popped in my feed. I had to grab, as the first book I read by her was really good. Vanessa's ex had the nerve to steal her grandmother's ring and put it on another person was crazy. And I love the Michael. He was such a caring person and the description of him in the book really had my imagination going. The story kept me smiling a lot.

This was also my first time listening to Denise Wallace narrating and she was really good too.

LOVE THE STORY

I am so happy with this audiobook. There was something so mature, seasoned and developed about this story. It was really loved the growth in Vanessa throughout this book. It was the “getting her groove back” that had me cheering.
I loved Michael and his desire to help his sister, friends, community and later woman. He was a stand up guy, he came from a place of love.

I love a good comeback story and this was Vanessa’s comeback. Bravo!

What a refreshing love story

incredibly clichéd, the only reason I did not dnf is because the book had bipoc characters. I attempted to read the book and was deterred by the awkward prose, weird idioms and metaphors, and was confounded by the author's word choices. The audio book just emphasized what I had to read allowed to myself multiple times, but overall great performance from the narrator.

I really wanted to love this book. Anything with a black female lead falling in love calls to me. Although it was good, it wasn't great. First, the narrator just wasn't my cup of tea. They were very clear but they also came off very flat and dry. Any dialogue that obviously had more emotion or heartache sounded like everything else in the book. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I read it on my own. Second, the mispronounced Korean was a big thumbs down. There were only a few words that came up. Was Google or YouTube not available for reference? Last, the author had the characters saying things and phrases that I just don't think people say in real life? Who says, "I'm allergic to pet dander" rather than just "I'm allergic to pets/cats/dogs". And you're probably wondering, really? It wouldn't have been a big deal if she said it once. But then it constantly kept coming up! I honestly laughed! Who says pet dander?! Also, when our guy Michael was getting in "the mood", he also said weird phrases that turned me off.
So yeah, good but not great.
