About this listen

As the lead songwriter for Jacob’s Ladder, the last thing Gabe Renard needs is a debilitating case of writer’s block. After years of meaningless one-night stands, he's finding it hard to pen the love-filled ballads the label is requesting. In an effort to clear his mind, Gabe takes his jeep off-roading in the North Georgia Mountains. When a wrong turn leads to him getting stuck more than just creatively, he’s forced to call for help.

To his surprise, the “Ray” who has been sent by Hart Wreckers to his aid is actually “Rae” - a sexy-as-hell spitfire in a pair of tight-as-hell jeans. The combination of Rae’s sassy mouth and rocking body might be the inspiration Gabe needs. But for the first time since becoming a rock star, his advances have been shot down.

Reagan Hart has never been a fan of musicians. In fact, just the mention of one might cause her to throw a tire tool. Her disgust for them started when she was just eight, and her mother ran off with a traveling country singer, and it only worsened when, at 17, her rocker boyfriend knocked her up before blowing out of town. As a single mother taking care of her family's collision business, Rae doesn't have time for hookups, much less a relationship. And if she did make time, a musician would be last on her list, even one as good-looking as Gabe Renard.

Can Gabe find the words to prove not only to Rae, but himself, that she’s the only one for him?

Enjoyed the audio more than the ebook

The story is told in both Gabe and Rae’s points of view. I love being
able to be inside both of their heads especially since there is so
much involved in this story. Gabe and the band, Jacob's Ladder, are
introduced in the other series. Gabe Renard is the drummer, as well as
songwriter for Jacob’s Ladder. Unfortunately, he is suffering from
major writers block even after hanging out at his sister’s place which
usually helps. He decides to head further off road. There his jeep
gets stuck and when he calls for help his jeep is not the only thing
saved. Rae has had bad experiences with rock stars and she so wants
nothing to do with Gabe, yet he won’t leave her alone. Her son
convinces her she should at least try to spend time with Gabe. You
will find yourself laughing along with the characters, as well as
wanting to slap them across the back of the head for their stupid
behavior. I enjoyed how the author let us know who Rae is being she
is new to us readers that have read the Runaway Train series. Will
Gabe be able to change Rae's mind about musicians? Will Gabe lose his
writer's block?

Both narrators were new to me, but I look forward to listening to more
for them in the future and hope they will also be narrating Eli's book
when it comes to audio. I actually found that I enjoyed the audio of
this book much more than reading the book. The narrators really had a
way of bringing this story to life and so many times it was as if I
was hearing the story for the first time. Already being familiar with
the Renard siblings from them appearing in the original series, it was
great to get to know and understand Gabe so much more. I look forward
to Eli’s story and was sad when this book came to an end.

immature writing with robotic reading

Couldn't finish this one. The narration is so robotic it was impossible to get into the story let alone connect with the characters.
