Story
While on holiday in 1925, four-year-old Michael Tolkien lost his beloved toy dog on the beach at Filey in Yorkshire. To console him, his father, J.R.R. Tolkien, improvised a story about Rover, a real dog who is magically transformed into a toy and is forced to seek out the wizard who wronged him in order to be returned to normal. This charming tale, peopled by a sand-sorcerer and a terrible dragon, by the king of the sea and the Man-in-the-Moon, went through several drafts over the years.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

audio issues
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes,
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked all the characters
Which scene was your favorite?
I like the scene where Jake was stalking the deer for his grandfather not realizing that all the "inmates" were watching as well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
My students and I all thought it would be a good movie.
Any additional comments?
issues with playing the audio from time to time. When I try to advance to a passage or go back it starts running up or down and won't stop. Also when you click on the single arrow it jumps two chapters at a time so then you have to use the double arrows to get it to the correct time for each class.

Great Read for All Ages
I realize that this is a story for young people. However, at 53 years old, I absolutely loved how Roland Smith crafted this story! The part where Jake is describing his conversations and interactions with the "inmates" had me laughing too hard to finish reading it aloud to my students. So funny and so true!
