Story
Kabir has been in jail since the day he was born because his mom is serving time for a crime she didn't commit. He's never met his dad, so the only family he's got are their cellmates, and the only place he feels the least bit free is in the classroom, where his kind teacher regales him with stories of the wonders of the outside world. Then one day a new warden arrives and announces Kabir is too old to stay. He gets handed over to a long-lost "uncle" who unfortunately turns out to be a fraud and intends to sell Kabir. So Kabir does the only thing he can - run.

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Great book for Middle School
I teach 7th grade literature, and my academic team used this as a cross-disciplinary project. The novel is excellent for all readers with enough emotion, action, and thrill. A good narrator captures the youthful protagonist as well. Recommended.

Great adventure book
When I was in middle school 15 years ago I actually read the paper version and it almost made me fall in love with reading, unfortunately the next few books I read in school were such a bore that I gave it up, yet it sparked my interest in Africa and inspired me to travel to Tanzania. After falling in love with audio books after college I remembered how much I love this book in middle school and decided to listen to it this time and it was still as good as I remembered it! Short and sweet, fun and full of adventure

The travel details and plot line were interesting. The performance wasn’t my favorite, but I got used to it after a while. Would recommend
