Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

The AI Reading was horrid.
The story might have been better if a robot voice that did not pronounce character names correctly was not used.

Novella
After the others in the series this was woefully short.
I have to agree the A.I. reading was like listening to a robot which I guess it is.
Hopefully this will not become the go to.

AI narration ruined this book
I love Irina Shapiro’s Wonderland Series. Was very excited to have a little more of the story with this novella after finishing all 5 books. I was dismayed when at the beginning it was announced the narration would be with “virtual voice.” It turned out to be awful. There was no life to the voice, sounded completely hollow and fake. If this is the wave of the future - “virtual voice” - I might as well go back to reading actual books.

Virtual voice
I love this author and was excited to listen to this book. However, the virtual voice was horrible. fluctuation was wrong throughout the reading. if not for the story, I would not have finished it. Based on this reading, I'll doubtless not listen to another virtual voice reading.

the virtual voice kept running on sentences
the story was good. I just wish it could have been longer and with a real person reading it.

Jem has row in My Heart
This was a fun and quick story. Knowing how Jem’s life unfolds. How He grows into a Man.
The ending was short and to the point, would have liked more…but overall a good listen.

A.I. Reading was intolerable.
I was very interested in finding out what happened to Jem as he was such an endearing character in the story. However, the AI reading of the story was completely intolerable. I couldn’t bring myself, even as interested as I was in Jem, to suffer the AI reader

Pleasantly surprised
I was happy to get a glimpse of what happened to Jem. I was hesitant to listen with the narrator being Virtual Voice, but it wasn’t bad. Better than many human narrators I think.

Awful narration
I love Shapiro s novels, but it feels as if she could not make up her mind if Jem was smart or stupid. And the awful virtual narration did nothing to enhance the book. I fear a future that contains only virtual narrators.....
