Enjoyed the story

I liked conversation back and forth between the characters. Loved the time period. The reader did a wonderful job voicing the different characters.

Pretty Good

A Deadly Affair is a pretty good book. The plot is a bit out there. Mikaela got on my nerves a bit because she kept making the same mistake over and over again. But otherwise, it was an entertaining book. I might get the next one.

overall a very satisfying listen

the story was good, characters interesting with enough breadcrubs of backgreound to give them depth, and the reader had a good range of voice to give the characters individuality

Great story

Love the story, the sense of humor here and there and the way they both work together--and that I truly like him/her--though they do not say it out loud. I so enjoy this type of Murder/Mysteries novels and this hits it all!...on to book 2!

Mystery Maven

Take a chance on a new series, especially if enjoy series as I do. Well done us of existing model; independent woman of the age, rugged male lead and a really good mystery. Add outstanding narration and we have a good book. On to the next entry. Enjoy.

Meh

I thought this book would be right up my alley. However, the MC has no character development. She makes the same mistakes over and over. The narrator is decent, a bit shrill on the female voices. Overall there are much better historical murder mysteries. Skip it.

Independent woman and strong burly man

I love a good accent and the ones in this book seemed okay to me. The story held up with a good mystery. There were points where I couldn't remember the numerous external characters, but nothing that mattered in the end. The MC is a wildly independent woman in a time when that is still frowned upon by many but more openly accepted than before. She brings up past exploits quite often that is meant to point out how 'etraoardinary' she is compared to her fellow women of the time but it's never stated so blatantly. The stories are amusing, though. There is a notable absence of emotion for someone who's dear sister is missing and possibly dead. At some points it seems like she's having such a good time solving the spider web of a mystery that we forget her beloved sister is the focal point of it all. The main male character doesn't get enough personality shown, he's more the strong, silent type. They work well together while arguing the whole way. This is only the first in the series so I'm sure we will learn more about him as the saga continues. These a few of the problems I've noticed but it was put together well, fun to 'solve', and the narrators were very good. I did enjoy the book and I will read the next one.
