About this listen

A North of Ireland woman learns through her child's tragedy how to face her prejudices while on a holiday in Turkey. Shortlisted for the Willesden Prize, Jolt is a story about perception and ingrained prejudices that we can carry around with us in our everyday lives. Sometimes it can take a journey to a strange place to waken us into a less intransigent way of seeing the world.

Nice Short Story

This was a quick listen about grief and prejudice. I enjoyed the setting and found there was a lot of emotion packed into this short story.

Heber Rowan has a nice voice, but I found it a bit broken at times.

I received a copy of this book at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Tragic and Sweet

This book made me cry.
Tragedies very hard to write. Normally people write tragedies just unfortunate events. A tragedy is so much more than that.
A GOOD tragedy is writen not only as unfortunate events, but delves into the characters mindset and enables the reader to see how they deal with it.
In this book, the characters deal with grief. Loss can tear a family apart. People need to be strong and face loss and not run from it. It is a beautiful novella but very short.
It suffers however from a lackluster performance by Heber Rowan. He is a talented narrator with a good inflection and range. He however uses too many unecessary pauses in hte middle of his performance. Its like he is searching for the word ne deeds to say next.

Good short story

A good tragic love story but the narrator paused a bit much in the middle of sentences to make it an easy listen.

Confronting grief and prejudice

This was an interesting story about facing prejudice and not being able to escape the past and the pain it's brought. Jolt was good despite meandered strangely at times.

The narrator has a lovely voice but has a hard time maintaining flow. There are far too many jarring moments where it's clear that he's reading unfamiliar material.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Short story

This is a super short story. I felt it had a lot packed in the shortness of the story however it didn't feel resolved at the end but other than that I enjoyed it. Heber Rowan does a good job. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
