Thank -you!

I left a message on the author's Facebook page recently regarding this series and am so happy that it's made it's way onto Audible. Actually, I have seen many of her Valdemar-related books from the 1980's & 1990's recently as well. It's fantastic to see more of the books I read when I was a teenager... especially now as I'm having eyesight issues and audiobooks are much easier on the eyes. Thanks again to Audible, Misty and all of the narrators for adding these.

Great characters and perfect Reader!

Ryan Burke brought the characters to life. I could not imaging a better voice being lent to Lackey's story. I am looking forward to listening to the next in the series.

Good narration but accents are not aligned

I love this story (and most stories by Mercedes). The narrator has a good voice, but gave the characters a brogue accent, somewhere between Irish, Scottish and a bit of English cockney. From the names of character and cities, i thought it was more Egyptian based, so that kept throwing me off. But i would listen again.

Great book from my early adulthood!

I loved this series when it was first published. The narrator is good and easy to listen to. However, the book takes place in a sort of alternate Egypt or Canaan, so his use of various British accents is disconcerting as is his 'very' Americanized pronunciations of things. Avatre the dragon, for example should be pronounced with emphasis on the second syllable, not the first. Skimping on such details can create dissonance for the listener when he or she is hearing a new rendition of an old and treasured friend. Other than that, I will be purchasing the next installment.

Great story.. weird direction on accents

I have been a fan of this series since it was first published, still have hardcover 1st editions. I love these books, and the narrator is skilled, but what the heck is up with his accent choices? The setting is clearly "Egyptian" but instead of going with a neutral broadcast accent, or middle eastern accent, he chose a mix of Scottish and English. I was ready to make my peace with it when it seamed that the Altan characters were voiced with mixes of English accents, and the Tian's mostly Scottish, but he didn't even stick to that. I've also noticed odd pronunciations of names. The main character Vetch's father Kiron I've always read as K EE ron, but the narrator reads it at Kur ron. Again, Great story, just weird direction in the acting.

When I read this book origionally it dragged and I never finished it...

But when I saw it was new on Audible, I decided to give it another try. Afterall it is a Mercedes Lackey book. Really glad I did because the excellent narration brought this book alive and made it a rare and wonderful treat. Very happy I tried it again and look forward to the rest of the series to come on Audible! Can't wait!

Narration that matches an epic book

Very well done. I first read this more than a decade ago, and I’ve loved the story for years. This narration was a real treat, though, and compliments the story well. I hope they add the rest in the series to audible as well soon.
