About this listen

Riley Callahan has plans to finally reveal his secret feelings for his best friend (who just happens to be his brother’s ex). But tragedy strikes and derails his plans.

Watching the love of his life fall for his brother was enough to send Riley straight to boot camp. But over a year later, he's officially a marine, and Beau and Paige are no longer an item. When Riley's tour in Afghanistan is up, he intends to confess his feelings to Paige and win his best friend's heart once and for all.

But all that changes when an IED takes the life of a comrade and leaves Riley an amputee. Now he's heading home, injured and troubled. His plans to win Paige are a distant dream. She deserves so much more than the man who's left. All he can do now is put some healthy distance between them. But upon his return, he discovers his family has arranged for him to stay with Paige.

Paige is a nurturer at heart and happy to take care of her best buddy. By all appearances Riley is adjusting miraculously well to his disability. But as the days pass, Paige begins to see that the smiles and laughter are just a mask for the pain he's hiding. To make matters worse, her job is in serious jeopardy. The animal shelter that she's poured her heart into has lost its funding, and she has three months to come up with the money needed to save it.

As the weeks wear on, Paige's feelings for Riley begin to shift into uncharted territory. Why is she suddenly noticing his arm muscles and the way his lips curl at the corners? Will she be able to deny her feelings for another Callahan brother? And will Riley let his heart heal so he can let Paige in?

enjoyable

i loved this series. it was more a slow paced book but that ok. the only reason i didnt give 5 starts was because i was very disappointed in the change of the narrator. she didnt seems to have the energy the other one did in first 2 books. but because i enjoyed books one and two so well i finished up number 3 too. thanks

Very nice

The book had a good story line. The reader's voice was kind of flat but I liked the accents she used.

Frustratingly Delightful!

I have loved all of this authors books. The narrator on this particular one was not as demonstrative as her previous narrator. Somewhat monotone. As far as the plot - started off interesting enough, but I got frustrated with the main male character, and felt the book was much longer than it needed to be. That said, I’ve listened through and DID come to a better understanding of what Riley had gone through. I’m glad I pushed through.
It was worth it-just like her others in this series better.

The story of Riley and Paige

This story takes place in Maine and yet our reader has a beautiful southern accent.

Horrible Narration

I couldn’t even get past the first chapter. Narrator voice sounded bored reading it. It was so flat, I couldn’t imagine that the characters had more depth. Very disappointed.

Not as good as the first 2

Really liked the first 2 books in this series but struggled to finish this one. The narrator is probably what made it boring as she is very hard to listen to.

a cute best friends to more story

More than a year ago, Riley Callahan had left home to serve his country...of course he had joined the military for the wrong reasons. Riley left home because he was in love with his best friend Paige...the same Paige that had been in a relationship with his older brother. Then just before Riley shipped out, Paige and his brother broke up. His plan then changed, he would return home and profess his love, except an IED took care of that. Now Riley is back, living in Paige's house, and dealing with severe PTSD. Will there ever be more for Riley and Paige?
Cute story about star crossed best friends and their journey to their forever.

It was okay

I really liked the idea of this book, wounded vet needing to deal with PTSD, doesn’t feel he deserved the girl he loved....but it was a bit repetitive. I was also frustrated with the h because she never stood up for herself, she accepted him back regardless of how he treated her. I wanted Paige to have a little more backbone than that.
The narration was not great. It was hard to know who was saying what in conversations with several people It was almost monotone.
