The Douglas Legacy

The Douglas sisters, beauties all, are used as pawns in their family’s bitter struggle to control the Scottish crown. But when a Douglas lass is in danger, she’ll find she’s been left to face it alone.

Kidnapped by a Rogue

After her brother’s dramatic fall from power and banishment for treason, Lady Margaret’s husband threw her out to save himself. Now her ambitious brother is back in Scotland with the support of Henry VIII - and a plan to again marry off his beautiful, compliant sister to forge an alliance. But Margaret refuses to ever wed again, and she’s desperate to escape.

Thanks to his roguish charm and skill with a sword, Finn Sinclair Gordon has managed to survive the treacherous waters between his parents' rival clans - until now. To prove his loyalty, Finn must accept the unsavory task of taking the Douglas chieftain’s sister hostage. Oddly, the lass doesn’t offer much resistance.

Though Margaret knows better than to trust the devilishly handsome Highland warrior who unwittingly provides her escape, she struggles to fight the unexpected passion that ignites between them. Finn, who likes women for a laugh and a night of pleasure, is blindsided by his fierce desire for this steady lass with a kind heart. They’ll risk their lives to save each other and prevent a bloody clan war - but will they risk their wounded hearts for love?

It’s in the details

MM is a fantastic writer. The details help enrich the stories but they can also be brutally truthful. Sometimes I’m not up to the brutality but the stories are so good you can’t help but want to read all her books. It’s actually how I learned so much about history is reading bits thrown in with a bit of romance. DP is the absolute perfect narrator!

So Good!

I was waiting for this book to come out, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. From the very begining it catches your attention, regarding what happens to Margaret. I also enjoyed the historical facts at the end.

narration

I love the narrator's accents and it was really unfair to give him 3 stars so I changed to 4. He has quite the range, but overall I'm ever disappointed when there's not a truly masculine AND truly feminine voice. This is just fairly impossible for one narrator.

Wonderfully complex female character!

Kidnapped by a Rogue is an exciting historical romance set in 1500's Scotland. Like all of Margaret Mallory's novels, it is expertly written with well developed characters. As an added bonus, you get several characters from the history books mixed in with the fictional characters featured in this story.

The third book in the The Douglas Legacy by Margaret Mallory, Kidnapped by a Rogue centers around Lady Margaret Douglas after she's experienced several miscarriages, a failed marriage, and a near death experience. She now fears another arranged marriage to an old man by her infamous and traitorous brothers and she plots a way to escape her brothers' machinations. On the night of her planned escape, Margaret runs into Highlander Finn Sinclair Gordon, not knowing he was tasked with kidnapping her to prove his loyalty between his parents' rival clans. Before Finn knows what happened to him, she's negotiated the terms of her capture and escort to the Highlands.

After spending several nights in each other's company, Finn starts to fall for Margaret, despite being a rogue who usually likes women for little more than bed-sport. Finn is amazed by Margaret's steadfastness, quick thinking, and kind heart. I love reading stories with such a wonderfully complex female character, and the men who love them - just as they are!

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by Derek Perkins. He did an outstanding job. He clearly differentiated between male and female voices and changed the tempo in the performance when warranted. His smooth undertones and character nuances made for an extremely enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this audiobook!
