Publisher's summary

1684, Scottish Highlands

Englishwoman Evelyn Worthington is resolved to build a school for ladies in her brother's newly purchased Scottish castle. But when she arrives, not only does she find the castle scorched by fire, but a brawny Highlander bars her entry.

Clan chief Grey Campbell would rather die than see his family home, Finlarig Castle, fall into English hands, so Grey must win the battle of wills with the beautiful Sassenach who flashes a bill of sale before him.

When the war between Evelyn and Grey escalates, passions flare. But outsiders have their own plans for Finlarig. After secrets are revealed, and muskets are lit, the fates of the Campbell Clan, the school, and a possible future for Grey and Evelyn are in as much jeopardy as their lives.

I’ll take one highlander, please

On our upcoming episode of Audicted to Romance, Melissa highlighted The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley, and ever since I’ve had a hankering to find my own highlander series to get lost in. Sometimes, all you need to fill any holes in your (listening) life is a crisp Scottish brogue. Justine Eyre performs A Rose in the Highlands by Heather McCollum, and the 17th century love story had hints of some of my favorite classic highlander tales, with a Sassenach woman on Scottish soil, seeking independence but finding more than she bargained for. McCollum delivers mystery, romance, and the Highland drama I was craving. —Katie O., Audible Editor

Typical highland story

Love the narrator of the story but the story line was not terribly original. Little glints of humor came through.

Loved it!

I loved this story. I am a huge fan of Justine Eyre so that played a part. But the story was terrific. Exciting and very romantic. Both lead characters were easy to love and it was SO satisfying that Evelyn was the one to get her justice in the end. Strong women characters and men with enough angst to be fun to read but not whiny. I highly recommend this series.

A Rose in the Highlands

You just can't help but love a sexy highlander! This is Book 1 of this series, I unfortunately didn't realize that until it was too late, and I listened to book 2 first. Lol. Justine Eyre does a fantastic job as narrator and the guys even sound sexy. 😀 Heather McCollum gave her such well developed characters to carry the story. I loved listening to this audio book and b believe both Author and Narrator deserve 5 stars for their contribution to this collaboration. Don't miss this one!
