About this listen
Something sinister and eerie is afoot in Linnly County...
When Chief Sidney Becker arrives at a crime scene on the lakeshore of her small town, she’s confronted with one of the most spine chilling murders she’s ever witnessed. The victim was drained of blood, yet the crime scene is immaculate. The man’s nude body is inscribed with mysterious symbols, and strange tokens are buried nearby in the sand. A highly skilled detective, Sidney won’t rest until the killer is in custody. The investigation takes her into the world of magical practices and beliefs; her suspects include witches, illusionists, psychics, and magicians. Their familiarity with the symbols from the crime scene send a ripple of fear through the occult community. Many are convinced that a demonic warlock is on the loose. Sidney has little patience for beliefs in magic spells and demons. She’s convinced the killer is a lone psychopath with a personal vendetta. But she can’t deny that something sinister and eerie is afoot in Linnly County—something coiled and venomous and evil, and it’s waiting to strike again.

Lana Fleming’s sister has vanished from the set of TV’s hottest show, and no one seems to care. Desperate for answers, Lana sneaks in as an extra, only to get stranded with Griffin Hart, an A-list action star with a reputation for good abs and bad decisions. Though Griffin didn’t expect to be cast as a librarian’s sidekick in a real-life thriller, he’s weirdly into it—and into her. Even more unsettling—she sees right through his playboy persona. But their meet-cute soon turns deadly when they uncover a Hollywood scandal for the ages.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

stopped playing with an hour left
title stopped playing, voice is drab, and not natural, just same tone all the way through, well most of the way, could not finish because of playback error. storyline a bit boring even for me. I try to listen to everything O start. maybe it was the computer generated voice.

Great story but AI voice hurts it
I have listened to all of the stories in this series because I like the story line; however, the artificial voice is horrible. An audio book should not be read by a virtual voice because it misreads the story. There is no inflection or feeling from the characters it is portraying and the words are read literally without the fact that some words can be read differently depending on the context of the sentence.
If I paid for the books I would have returned them because of the virtual voice. It detracts from a good story line.

Narration
The story was good. The narrative was awful. The only reason I finished was finding out who did it. Using AI ruined a good book

good book bad reading
The audio performance was not aligned with the tone, the long pauses at chapter changes, and in one scenario the fake/funny Italian accent was ruined.
