About this listen

In Killing Plain, Ralph Cotton displays the striking combination of gritty authenticity and lyrical beauty that has earned widespread critical acclaim.

Lonzo Greer and his Black Moon gang are leaving a blood-soaked trail on the unforgiving desert sands of the Arizona Territory, and they've got a personal vendetta against ranger Sam Burrack. But, with the lethal precision of his bonehandled Colt, Sam's as formidable as any of the Black Moon boys, and he's got an equally deadly partner in ranger Hadley Jones.

Very good

George Guidell is an AMAZING ACTOR And NARRATOR. I love listening to him. I choose books based on his narration. The story was really good in this book and I love Sam the ranger character.

Killing plain killer book

If you like westerns then this is the book for you. I like Lonesome Dove, most Zane Grey and L'amour stories but this one topped them. Very well narrated and once you get used to the narrators cadence and style you will thoroughly enjoy the story. A rousing rough and tumble western with plenty of bad guys, gunfights and lawmen in the old west. I have already ordered his other book The Law in Samos Santos and look forward to listening to it. No wasted credit here

Loius L'Amour it ain't

Poor dialog, disjointed storyline, implausible bad guys and lack of tension make this a waste of time if you like good westerns. Hadley and Sam turn up in the nick of time (or almost) so often that it becomes predictable. Almost no western lore. The bad guys are nasty and stupid (big surprise) and their dialog is just so silly and stupid that it does nothing to make the story more enjoyable. Sam is the stoic Ranger while Hadley is the trigger happy new guy who abandons all caution and training to ride to his bride's rescue before finishing his job despite Sam's warning.

There are a few good scenes but not many. Guidall does his usuall excellent reading but it's not enough to save this story. All in all I'd say pass on this one.

Killing Plain

The author doesn't know a thing about guns. "45 colt knock him backwards." "Rifle knocked him out of the saddle." Also he seems to take pleasure in telling of rape of young women.
