New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cindy Gerard plunges listeners into the heart of a seductive contest of wills between a hard-living hero and a beautiful rogue operative who is on a mission to dig up the secrets of his past. Tension sizzles in this pulse-pounding first adventure in Gerard’s action-packed new series as Eva Salinas lures Mike Brown from the sultry streets of Lima, Peru, to the desolate Idaho wilderness on the hunt for the cold-blooded traitor behind a fatal military operation that haunts them both.

Mike, the disgraced, PTSD suffering hero who finds out 8 years later that it may not have been his fault that half his team died in Afghanistan. Ava, the Latin beauty with a mysterious reason to come find Mike, finds herself in over her head. But soon they are both running from a killer who seems to have them in her sites.
Action packed, the story moves along. The narrator does a fine job with voices for the characters.

This book features Mike "Primetime" Brown, an ex-black ops leader who has been hiding away from life and drinking himself into a stupor since losing his men on a mission and taking the fall for the failure.
He is approached by Eva Salinas, the ex-wife of one of his fallen men, and challenged to find out what really happened with that mission and clear his team's name of the disgrace and blame that followed their failed mission in Afghanistan.
Mike contacts Gabe, from the Black ops series, and with Ava's help, the three of them begin to delve into the past, to find what really went down 8 years ago.
Gabe and Ava sizzled to me. Their chemistry was real and raw from the beginning. I kind of wished I had read the Black ops series first because they were mentioning how Gabe used to be, and refering to Mike back in the day, so I will go back and read that series...once I finish this one because it was so good.
Great writing, great flow, so cohesive. I loved it.

Of the previous novels the main character appears in but I didn’t enjoy the narrator’s version of his voice or the other male voices. If I didn’t want to hear his story so much at this point I would have stopped listening.
Narrator is a bit distracting

I really like this series - but I hate to say my least favorite narration

Ah, guns-N-amore, military protector romance. This is my kind of popcorn listen, especially when you add in a smart salsarific chica.
“She had him at spandex.”
Yes, there’s over the top, only in B movies, scenarios, but that’s part of the fun. The other great thing is the band of brothers story for Mike, bringing humor and heart. Things dragged in the middle, but the start and end rocked. If the rest of the series were available, id be moving on in a heartbeat.
If only the rest of the series was on Audible

I rate 3 stars as a perfectly adequate book and this was certainly that. There was enough tension - more than enough at some points - and the relationship between Mike and Eva was fun.
I think I may have found a new genre to explore.
Entertaining
