About this listen

For 15 years, Eleanor Roosevelt and her handsome doctor, David Gurewitsch, were friends, traveling, entertaining, and eventually buying a townhouse together in Manhattan. Their friendship has always intrigued historians, but not much is known about it. David kept detailed journals and took thousands of photos, but he never publicly discussed their time together.

For the first time, Edna Gurewitsch, David's wife, is opening up and revealing their story, and hers, after she married into their complicated relationship. Edna also gives a fresh, insider's look at Mrs. Roosevelt as she continued to influence world events, and the book is filled with passionate letters from Mrs. Roosevelt.

Fascinating behind the scenes look at Mrs. Roosevelt last years. I never heard about the friendship between these two people. A real platonic love story.

Never Knew.

I had no idea of what to expect when I started listening to this wonderful story about one of the most beloved women of the 20th Century. Edna and David truly loved Mrs. Roosevelt. I think it was lovely the way they still referred to her as Mrs. Roosevelt which was a sign of deep respect even though she was so close to them. I'm also glad that in her later years she had a beautiful relationship with her children despite how strained it was when they were much younger. I can't recommend this book any more highly than I already have. I encourage anyone and everyone to listen to this book. I loved it.

I knew almost nothing about Eleanor Roosevelt before listening, and I'm glad that this generous, friendly biography was the first I experienced rather than some of the darker more cynical works. A truly remarkable woman for any era or time in history, I came to admire Eleanor whole heartedly for her many fine qualities.

I'm glad I listened to this one first

Truly moving biography of a sincere and loving relationship. Gripping, til the very end. I appreciate Edna’s rich and thorough accounting of this piece of history. Dr. Gurewitsch was the type of doctor we all wish for. I’m saddened for his family, his patients and him, that his life was cut short. I was most interested and appreciative to know more about Eleanor Roosevelt’s personal life, quite a gift. Beautifully written.

marvelous accounting of a moving history
