About this listen

The best-selling author of Girl Waits with Gun returns with another adventure featuring the fascinating, feisty, and unforgettable Kopp sisters.

After besting (and arresting) a ruthless silk factory owner and his gang of thugs in Girl Waits with Gun, Constance Kopp became one of the nation's first deputy sheriffs. She's proven that she can't be deterred, evaded, or outrun. But when the wiles of a German-speaking con man threaten her position and her hopes for this new life and endanger the honorable Sheriff Heath, Constance may not be able to make things right.

Lady Cop Makes Trouble sets Constance loose on the streets of New York City and New Jersey - tracking down victims, trailing leads, and making friends with girl reporters and lawyers at a hotel for women. Cheering her on, and goading her, are her sisters, Norma and Fleurette - that is, when they aren't training pigeons for the war effort or fanning dreams of a life on the stage.

Based on a true story, Girl Waits with Gun introduced Constance Kopp and her charming and steadfast sisters to an army of enthusiastic listeners. Those listeners will be thrilled by this second installment - also ripped from the headlines - in the romping, wildly listenable life of a woman forging her own path, tackling crime and nefarious criminals along the way.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Christina Moore continues to shine in the Kopp Sisters series.... Moore captures Constance perfectly--at times vulnerable but more often a strong and determined turn-of-the-century woman who feels she's finally found her calling. In addition to Constance, Moore expertly gives voice to a cast of secondary characters, including men and people with distinctive accents, making each one a believable individual." ( AudioFile)

I have read all of the books in this series. Each one has been a treat! Ms. Stewart has presented an accurate picture of women’s struggles and successes in early 1900
America!

I read the first in the series (Girl Waits With Gun) on paper, and I found I didn't like the narrator as much as I usually do -- it didn't match my expectations for the characters. Nevertheless it was fine, and I really liked this next instalment in this series about Constance Kopp and her sisters, who are real women from the early 20th century. It's hard to imagine these stories are based on real events, even though I know they are.

Great second in the series

favorite series, favorite performance

This book picks up where Girl Waits with Gun left off. Without adding any spoilers I can say that Constance causes a situation through an error of her own doing. One of the reasons I love this series is that it is believable. Ms. Stewart doesn't overly glamourize Constance. While I'm sure it's not 100% historically accurate, I can very much see most of the scenarios playing out. I like that Constance is a tall, sturdy, plain woman and that she makes mistakes but has such drive to remedy them and bring justice. I love her work ethic. I love that she never plays victim to anyone and is not only self-reliant but is in fact, a force to be reckoned with. I've already started the last in the series, Miss Kopp's Midnight Confessions and wish that there were more.

Continuation of Girl Waits With Gun

What made the experience of listening to Lady Cop Makes Trouble the most enjoyable?

The combination of smart, witty writing and a narrator who performs as if he/she were right there, makes this an incredibly positive experience!

What other book might you compare Lady Cop Makes Trouble to and why?

Girl Waits With Gun -- the first book in this series (and hopefully there will be a ton more) is brilliant for the incredible writing and the terrific narration.

Which character – as performed by Christina Moore – was your favorite?

All were terrific -- Constance, the Sheriff and Fleurette.

Any additional comments?

Sometimes I wonder who chooses the narrators. Sometimes I wonder who actually pays them to do such a poor job. In this case, Christina Moore is among the best I've ever heard. She invests herself in each character, she doesn't pause after every fifth word and the flow is marvelous. Kudos, Christina!!

The narrator makes a huge difference!

I’ve become fond of this series for the unusual setting and wit.
The dialogue between the sisters is a hoot, and I’ve become very attached. I’m listening to Book 3, looking forward to Book 4.
Love this author.

I genuinely enjoy every one of the characters in these novels, even the criminals! Each person is well rounded and ai get a sense for what makes them tick. This is the second novel by Amy Stewart that I’ve listened to and have enjoyed them both as an escape to a simpler time, with it’s own unique challenges!

Heart Felt Character Development

Well written series. A unique story line compared to what I normally read and each book has captured my interest from start to finish. Christina Moore is a great narrator, but more than that, perfectly suited for the era in which it takes place. Highly recommend.
