Publisher's summary

In the tradition of Jane Austen and Charlotte Brontë, debut author Julie Klassen delivers a compelling Regency Era novel brimming with authentic period details, vibrant characters, and enthralling plot twists. Banished from hearth and home, a vicar's 20-year-old daughter pays dearly for a single lapse in judgment. To avoid the scorn of local villagers, Charlotte Lamb wends her way to the forbidding Milkweed Manor on the outskirts of London. Concealing her identity, she finds refuge within the dank confines of this mysterious bastion of old secrets and new life. She soon encounters a former suitor, harboring secrets of his own. Firmly relying on God's strength, both resolve to protect their loved ones. But neither realizes the level of self-sacrifice this will require.

The Sacrifice of a Loving Mother

The difficult sacrifice a mother made to protect her son which was done by a True Lady in that historic period of time. She was willing to give up her life but never gave up her dignity.

Milkweed manor

A great story line and characters. Love the small snippets of facts before each chapter. Can’t wait to read more of her books

Lovely.

Keeps you guessing! Beautiful ending. Heartrending, but so true to life in the ways of God. He keeps us guessing, and when we desire His will, the ending to just marvelously miraculous.

Great narration. Wonderful story.

Excellent! Loved it!

I loved this book. Took me a minute to get used to a male narrator. But it was a great listen. Highly recommended. Anything by this author is fantastic!

I love Julie Klassen

my only complaint would be getting used to the man's voice...my first make reader...it took a little while to get used to because his pitch would drop low and I couldn't understand him...by the middle of the book I was used to it and really enjoyed it ....book was awesome!

Nicely done!

Simon Prebble's performance is well done. He gives voice to all the characters well. His voice is also soothing to the ear.

Ready to read my next Klassen!

Julie Klassen glides her readers in a sustained pendulum of tension and relief through her character's choices and their outcomes. Her brilliant character depictions prove by virtue of their contrast the sublimity of a human soul unmarred by bitterness and beautified through self-sacrifice. Klassen's poinant analogy of the milkweed reaches its culmination in its final lines, eliciting from her readers a long held sigh of literary satisfaction.
