Publisher's summary

Set in 1920s Europe, this poignant dark academia novel sheds new light on Shakespeare’s masterpiece, finally allowing Laertes to tell his side of the story.

Laertes Belleforest lives two lives: a wild, passionate one with his best friends studying Classics in Paris, and a stifling existence in the Danish court where the mercurial prince Hamlet constantly overshadows him.

Now in his last year at university, Laertes must decide the kind of man he will become. But who is he, apart from the huge personalities that surround him and the secret guilt that haunts him?

When tragedy rocks Denmark, Laertes’ questions are forced into focus. Like a Greek play, his story hurtles through love and wine, ghosts and revenge, toward inevitable catastrophe.

Perfect for fans of If We Were Villains.

Found this book by accident, and I’m glad I did.

(As of writing this, I have just listening to the whole audiobook. And since I began reading it I promised I give out a review and well here we are! Also, please note that rather or not it’s just my inner Hamlet fan speaking, this is just my personal opinion BUT I would recommend this book. And if this review happens to interest you in checking it out go right ahead!)

Recently, I have been going into a Shakespeare hyper-fixation and more specifically a Hamlet hyper-fixation. Hamlet and Laertes are my favorite characters overall. And while I was searching for Hamlet movies, and rather or not it was pure dumb luck or rather an accident, this book popped up in the results. Of course I got curious and convinced my mom to buy this book, and I’m I damn glad she did. Not only is this book giving attention and a whole new prospective to my second favorite Shakespeare character, but overall the story is pretty damn good. I really loved the character dynamics and the drama was an absolute treat, not to mention the writing style (for me at least) absolutely tickled the Shakespeare loving part of my brain! I wish a lot more people knew about this book I feel like it’s criminally underrated!

As a fan of Hamlet and all things Shakespeare, I feel Like people should check out this book if they want to scratch their Shakespeare loving itch!!
Overall 12/10!!
