About this listen

In the cut-throat game of court life, masters manipulate pawns—and you never know which one you are. One thing is certain: there's no space on the board for love.

A penniless noblewoman, Kat is on the verge of losing everything when she's offered a well-paid job that could be her salvation… or her ruin. Drawn into court's deadly intrigues, she's given a single task: spy on the powerful fae lord known as the Night Queen's Shadow.

Bastian Marwood is handsome, ruthless, and cunning, but Kat can't decide if he's a threat to her kingdom or just her heart. To uncover the truth, she must play a dangerous game of desire and deceit, pushing him to reveal his secrets while protecting her own. But Bastian's shadows have a hold on her—one she isn't sure she wants to escape.

Kat soon learns that at court, nothing is as it seems, and even the best-laid plans can be destroyed in an instant. As a pawn on the board, she can't afford to fall victim to love—only fight for survival.

A Kiss of Iron is the first book in a new series featuring court intrigue, a morally grey hero, and an unforgettable enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Gild and From Blood and Ash.

Honestly some of the “court” stuff was not my thing but the tension and spicy scenes were really well written and not cringy like many other books. The FMC is experiencing a lot of different trauma responses from the awful things she’s went through and the MMC is very supportive in building her up and it’s very sweet. I think this book one is laying out her past and how mentally unwell and paralyzed she is and the next book will be her working through that and gaining her self worth with MMC helping her. It was good and I liked the banter.

I still have questions

Lots of mystery and suspense, it kept me wanting to listen more. Anxious for the next book and the fae mysteries are the best.

Loved the suspense

This book was long, but also really good. The love story was beautiful and unique. And the ending!?! Wow! Just wow!

I am in love with this story and the narrator. The plot was really well weaved with tiny strands all coming together to build a beautiful story. Plus the character development was perfect. I loved the narrator’s tone, style, and pacing - frankly I wish she had done the epilogue also as that performance just didn’t live up to Sampino. 10/10 would recommend.

Obsessed.

I reallyyyy enjoyed this book. I’m not a ACOTAR fan (except nesta’s book) and really liked this book. It was spicy with subtle world building that didn’t bog down the storyline. Some things I didn’t love was the narrator did sound like she has candy in her mouth and sometimes the main character would be very smart and perceptive and then when it came to something obvious she wouldn’t see it which didn’t fit her character.

But overall loveddddddd this book. Excellent amount spice was perfect and the plot had a few bumps but overall I was always eager to find out how it would conclude.

Definitely a Bridgerton acotar vibe.

Loved this book.

I had such a fun time with this book! I picked this one up for my in person bookclub and immediately was sucked into the story. Kat and Bastian have undeniable chemistry - like I'm blushing in public and that rarely happens. The slow burn between them was everything. I'm really interested in learning more about the world and the different courts. There is still a lot to be unpacked. My biggest issues with this book was it was entirely too long. There were parts that dragged on. And also Kat is not the brightest - she rarely knew what was going on half the time when the answers were painfully obvious. All that said, I will absolutely be picking up the next book.
