Publisher's summary

Raised in a crumbling desert town filled with scorpions and tumbleweeds, Celia has learned to keep a safe distance from outsiders. However, when a crew of devastatingly handsome bikers - led by the dashing Abdul - rolls into town, Celia has no choice but to get her hands dirty. Charming, suave, and cocky, Abdul hurls excitement and trouble right to Celia's feet no matter how hard she tries to stay aloof.

Before Celia knows it, she is sucked into a whirlwind of adventure. Soon she is helping the motorcycle gang battle a cruel cartel leader, trying to stop the madman from getting his hands on an inhuman power. A saloon shoot out, a handsome genie, and a high noon showdown threaten to destroy Celia's complacency for good!

Awesome Short Story!!

Where does Lamp Riders rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In my opinion, this book ranks right up there! I loved this book, and the only thing I wished is that it was longer, or that there are more books.

What other book might you compare Lamp Riders to and why?

I don't really have anything to compare this audiobook to, and that's a good thing. It's almost a Sons of Anarchy meets Aladdin, but I'm not sure that does this book justice. I really loved the descriptiveness in this book. I loved the uniqueness of the story, the strong heroine, and how much of a story was packed into 2 hours.

I also think that Julie Hoverson did a great job narrating. I loved the accents, and how she did the voices, I look forward to more work from her.

The only negative I can really say is that I think this really could have been so much better if longer, more enhanced and character interaction. Ok, maybe that's my wishful thinking :) I'm hoping that there are more stories coming with the other riders. I'll be sure to watch for more!!

Not your typical Motorcycle romance

--I was given this audiobook in return for an honest review.

This short novella was nothing I expected. Celia, growing up in the desert and running her parent's shop had her meeting many different kinds of people, but this motorcycle gang was completely different. Meeting this particular gang changed her whole life. While not really a romance(there is an underlying story, but nothing acted upon) the fantasy/supernatural element was a surprise and a lot of fun. What better than a gang of good looking genies? The storyline leading to the gang and Celia in the desert to fight evil and how it ended was suspenseful and fun. I do hope there is a sequel so we can see where Celia and Abdul end up.

The narrator, Julie Hoverson, did a great job, loved her genie voices especially.

The jinn motor cycle gang. They sounded very respectful.
Also with Celia having a chance to get out of town for a while.

What other book might you compare Lamp Riders to and why?

I can't think of any book to compare it too. I would love to read the rest of the series.

What about Julie Hoverson’s performance did you like?

Excellent...The characters were separate and you can tell them apart.
I hope the narrator has done the series. She is fantastic.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the drug cartels Boss was taken down by Silia not the jinn
I was great.

Not Contemporary Romance - Fantasy/Adventure

Any additional comments?

Lamp riders

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review, which you can find below.

I expected the typical motorcycle gang novella that is popular in romance right now. However, this is in a genre all of its own.

Celia was born and raised in the desert by her hippie parents. Her life, in her early 20s, consists of running her family's general store and hanging out at the Rusty Nail, the local bar. (This is a 2 hour listen - any further details may spoil.)

As the only female under the age of 45 in town. It seems like the perfect setting for a hard-core romance novel. Instead Augusta Hill spins a tale of fantasy and a crazy adventure.

This was listed or categorized as Romance > Contemporary, it is not either. There was no romance and it is fantasy or science-fiction, shifter & magic. This mis-categorization is unfortunate because, as a romance listener I was disappointed. However, this would be a pleasant surprise for those who enjoy the genre of fantasy, outlander, etc.

The author builds great characters and the author narrator is good.

Odd but lovable

Would you consider the audio edition of Lamp Riders to be better than the print version?

Yes, it was brought to life in a why that I couldn't have done just reading to myself.....

Any additional comments?

If I had simply brought the Kindle version of this, I couldn't have done it justice in the reading..

Novelette for the causal fantasy/romance lover

Would you listen to Lamp Riders again? Why?

I would be interested in additional books yes. For the record, I'm not the target audience nor do read romance novels/novelettes. The magic portion of the book intrigued me and I was not disappointed. I would recommend if you are in the general vicinity of the target audience.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lamp Riders?

Augusta Hill's descriptive writing style is both impressive and vivid. How she set the tone and mood for her Lamp Rider's book left a memorable image in my head for the rest of the book. There is talent here and this is why I am recommending this book for casual fantasy/romance lovers out there. I will be looking out for additional books of her's because of this novelette.

What three words best describe Julie Hoverson’s performance?

Cheery, Forced, Wrong accent.

Any additional comments?

I was not impressed with Julie Hoverson's performance as I don't think she was the right fit for the job. This is not to say she was bad in this book, but the best way to summarize my impression was "a Southern drawl in a California setting". Too cheery, character's seem forced (Celia's mom for example) and I'm sorry but that accent just did not fit a simple Californian girl raised in the sticks at all. Poor producer choice maybe?
I did however enjoy Julie's expressive tones and inflections at describing Celia's frustrations and inner monologue. Positive marks for that. Sadly, not enough to give her performance anything above a C+ for effort.

These next comments are specifically for the Author herself and to those who want more incite before purchasing this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptive words and setting for this story. The town is alive in my head and its inhabitants are real people. This type of narrative is a gift and I encourage you to hone it. As for constructive criticism, I'm suggesting to work on describing the reasons a character does what they do and why they are thinking they way they think. I didn't/couldn't buy Celia's thought process for why she was suddenly infatuated with the Hot Jinn biker gang. For someone who grew up in that harsh town and toughened up with nature/animals/elements like heat and scorpions, going all gooey eyed at the first sign of blond/red/black locks that come out of a helmet isn't real. Even if it WAS real in the realms of this story, please explain to the audience why this was happening. If magic was involved at influencing her thoughts, go into detail as to why these foreign thoughts were invading her mind like that. I realize that this is a romance magic story but find something the readers can relate too. "Celia saw Abdul's eyes... a sparkle within that she couldn't explain. A sea of midnight black filled with the stars of adventure and a hint of danger. His eyes bore into her soul like nothing she had ever felt before and would never feel again. Her mind raced through every book she had read, every movie she had seen and every story her father told her just before he tucked her into bed. All within an instant of seeing those big beautiful black eyes. Then time unfroze and Abul smiled a mischievous grin."

Obviously you don't need use this example but I hope you get the idea. Why a character is doing something is important not only for the story, but for the audience to believe and relate to what's going on. I know you are talented and I will be reading more of your books in the future.

Interesting but wried

I found the book to be interesting and had potential but lacked development of the characters especially the jinn's motorcycle gan. The narrator was ok, This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com."

Lacking

Narration - Julie Hoverson - OK - I saw the Jinn as sexy men, but her characterizations for the men weren't as sexy sounding as I would have liked.

The story is short, so there's not a lot of detail. Everything happens pretty quickly so I was left feeling like it was lacking.
Lacking details, lacking plot and lacking character development.

Not a romance book.

What would have made Lamp Riders better?

If the book was labeled as fantasy or Sci-fi. By doing this it would draw the correct type of readers.

Any additional comments?

This books is marketed as a romance book, but in my opinion it is the farthest thing from a romance book. This is a Fantasy book or sci-fi, So if you are in to that type of book you should give this one a try, but if you looking for romance your looking at the wrong book.
