About this listen

Sile is a stylish citizen of the new Dublin, a veteran flight attendant who's traveled the world. Jude is a 25-year-old archivist, stubbornly attached to the tiny town of Ireland, Ontario, in which she was born and raised. On her first plane trip, Jude's and Sile's worlds touch and snag at Heathrow Airport. In the course of the next year, their lives, and those of their friends and families, will be drawn into a new, shaky orbit.©2007 Emma Donoghue (P)2007 BBC Audiobooks America Contemporary Fiction Fiction Genre Fiction LGBTQ+ Studies Literary Fiction Literature & Fiction Transportation Aviation Ireland

I love this book. Every so often I down load it and listen again. Love that I recognize the places in Ontario. Laura is a wonderful reader and perfect on the comical bits of the book.

A favourite!

I don't know how this book would have read since the better part of it is in e-mail/letter format, but as a story to listen to it was interesting. Good character development and and interesting plot. Not the usual story, not the usual issues. If you are looking for a story with lesbian protagonists, this is one of your best choices here.

great listen

This story is a wonderful piece of literature. it is so well written. The characters, places, background and hearts are so well developed and magically expressed. It was a joy to listen to the wonderful narration.

A nice love story between two women not only from different continents, but disparate worlds. They meet on a plane, Sheila is a flight attendant; Jude a traveler sitting next to a dead man. Starting with e-mail and phone calls and moving on to sporadic visits and finally the moment of decision.
This is a story with more depth than the usual love story , a bit more complicated than is usual in the genre. As another positive the obligatory breakup that occurs prior to the climatic ending feels like more of a natural outgrowth of the narrative than a contrived plot device. Jael and Risla were colorful supporting characters. A well written text with mostly likable characters. The narrator does the Irish accent fairly well (at least as far as I know) the English accents not so much and she doesn't even try a Canuck intonation.

Great language and great reading! Emma Donoghue, of course, is an awesome plotter, as usual! Read this book if you like good humor, wise heros and a great story!

I enjoyed the story--always happy to read any Emma Donoghue books. And it was excellent to find an audiobook with lesbian characters (apparently one of the few that audible offers.)

I thought the choice of narrator was unfortunate though--for a book with Canadian, Irish, and English characters why not choose a reader from one of those countries? The Irish accent sounded pretty good to me, but the English accent was grating, and how many Canadians would pronounce "Canuck" incorrectly or not be able to do a halfway decent impression of a Newfoundland accent!?

good story - poor choice of narrator

Quirky characters and thoughtful, slow burn falling in love story. Glad to find this author.

Takes a chapter to get into, but then it’s five star story

The story was long and I lost interest half way through it. But, finished it. Not sure I's spend the time.

Long, long.....

I downloaded this book several years ago and it’s still a favorite. I love the characters and wish for a sequel. Laura Hicks is a great narrator. I wonder what Jude and Sile are doing these days…

Love ❤️ it!!
