About this listen

Laurel Weidner desires a life of her own away from Philadelphia society and a dull, boring marriage. She is sent to live with her aunt in Lawrence, Massachusetts. When her aunt dies in a tornado, she gets a job at the Brown Textile Mill to avoid going back home. Two months later the mill burns down, and her father threatens to bring her back to Philadelphia.

When the mill and her livelihood perish with the fire, she has no other choice but to answer an ad in the Grooms' Gazette and become a Mail-Order Bride. Will she find peace and long lasting love in the arms of a stranger?

Griffin Benning needs a mother for his children. When his wife died, he lost his two children to his in-laws who claimed to have a better environment for raising his children. He misses his family and is coerced into advertising in the Grooms' Gazette for a wife to raise his children and work the farm in order to get them back.

Will his ad for a Mail-Order Bride provide what he needs? Can he find love and happiness with a stranger?

Can these two strangers find a common ground to reach their goals along with a happy-ever-after?

Wonderful book!

This is my first book by Carra and I can't wait to read more of her historical romance! Loved how Laurel learned both home keeping and farm wife skills from the book by Aunt Jenny!

Very Enjoyable

I really love this the way the overcome issues, the humor in doing it and the love of family and friends. The twins were a woot. The grandparents were dears, Griffin is a sweetie, taking things as they come, not over reacting, willing to help and learn. His girls are sweethearts. Laurel won't let life get one over on her, she is willing to learn and admits when he doesn't know how to do things. It really was a lovely romance that I got lost in. I really like the plot, romance and the humor, it was nice to see them laugh at their selves.

The narrator did a good job, there were a few places were she repeated a few things, there is a little background noise. Her character voices were nice, you know who is talking and what they are feeling. She really bought the humor to life and made me chuckle a few times. I really enjoyed her narration.

Nailed It

This was another great mail order bride story. I loved that the h was independent yet willing to get her hands dirty and discover how to run a household without a staff. I also enjoyed that her parents came around to her way of thinking. She also discovered that her mother was not the weakling that she thought she was. The H got exactly what he wanted and needed. He thought he just wanted a wife to be a mother for his two little girls and he got a woman who could not only do that but could make him laugh and get him out of his own head and live life. Blended families don't have to have lots of problems and this book showed how this mix can and should work. I got this book via audiobook boom.com

Very Enjoyable

What I love so much about Mail Order Bride stories is the hope, total trust and eventual fulfillment of the relationship between the women and men of that era. This is one of those stories.
When Laurel suffers the effects and losses of a tornado she is at a loss as to what she can do to survive.
Griffin's wife died and his two children live with their grandparents some distance away but he would love to have them living with him again so he advertises in the Grooms' Gazette for a Mail Order Bride.
She answers his advert but neither of them are totally honest in their letters which is revealed as the story progresses.
How they deal with this and other things that happen when they get married is what this book is about.
Carra Copelin has written a fast paced and lively story with many sweet and amusing moments in it. There is mirth, tenderness, tragedy and it is a love story that touches the heart.
Cindy Killavey is the very capable and talented narrator of this audiobook and helps to bring it to life.
