About this listen

Colorado, summer of 1880. Aurora McMullen, an orphan, has been left without family by her rich aunt's death. When the government seizes the small fortune given to her in the will, she takes a chance on her future and responds to a mail-order bride ad. Accustomed to a comfortable life in the city, she sets out to marry a man who defies her expectations and shows her the greatest riches come from the heart.

Elbridge Claywood, the doctor of Coal Valley, has been wanting to find a proper wife to share his home. A letter from his friend in Nashville helps him choose a volunteer nurse desperate to leave a bad situation. Always a gentleman, he marries this beautiful woman who brings warmth and hope into his lonely existence.

Together, they will discover they are destined for one another despite a good dose of homesickness and the rugged conditions of life in the west.

This was a very good short and sweet love story set in the 1880’s in Colorado. The characters are easy to relate to and the narrator does a wonderful job reading and bringing the characters to life.

This was my first Rose Andrews's book. This novella is sweet and cute. Barbara Goldie did a good job with the narration. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook — at my request — and have voluntarily left this review.

I picked this book knowing it was a novella. However, it was just too short. I felt that there just needed to be a bit more to round out the story and to develop the characters and their romance. Just when it was getting interesting, it was over. There are some good bones here with an interesting premise and promising characters... it just felt unfinished.

Nothing really stood out with Barbara Goldie's narration. She had fine pacing and some emotion. I'd be interested to hear her with a longer story with more meat to it.

I have a hard time with books set in the past. But this one was good, just took a bit to get into. I head background noise and the narration was a bit static at times, but she does do a good job.

Not my usual

I love all kind of genres fiction time travel sci-fi, but there is something that these historical fiction romance books give me I can’t get anywhere else and that is a happy ending that swells my heart. Although I know these are made of characters in most of the books I love at the end when I’m like oh that was so good in this book was no exception. It totally delivered, would be exception of a few things in the book that made me go really… For the most part it really delivered and I liked it. I totally recommend it to anyone who likes romance books for the happy endings in the ending that wasn’t so predictable. I thought it was great and the narrator did wonderful.

I love a happy ending!

Not once did I listen to this and definitely enjoyed it. I love the simple plot of the book and while I'm listening to this I can feel every emotions the characters feels. The narrator (Barbara) also did a spectacular job narrating this and I can't wait for more.
