Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Chantal Fernando "turns up the heat" (RT Book Reviews) in this steamy stand-alone novel when a divorce lawyer finds himself stuck between his client and the woman he desires - and soon he'll be forced to choose sides.

Hunter Brayze doesn't always like his clients, but as the divorce attorney for Bentley & Channing Law, he doesn't have to. So when he meets his latest client, even though he can't stand the guy, let alone understand how any woman would ever marry him, he is still determined to win his case. But he never expects taking this client would turn his entire world upside down.

When he comes face to face with his client's soon-to-be ex, he's shocked to see Riley McMahon, owner of his local pub and the woman he's wanted ever since he first laid eyes on her. He didn't even know she was getting a divorce, and now he's stuck defending the man who wants to screw Riley out of everything. Feeling like he's betraying her, Hunter vows to settle this case as quickly as he can by any means possible. Because after months of flirting with Riley at the pub, and now knowing that she'll soon be free, Hunter is determined to make her his.

But as the proceedings get messier and secrets are revealed, Hunter's running out of tricks to keep both parties happy. And when someone sets Riley's pub on fire, he can't help but suspect his own client. Torn between his professional code of ethics and his intense connection with Riley, Hunter finds himself at a crossroads wondering whose interests he'll ultimately protect.

Gotta love Hunter

Hunter an Riley are a couple that start out slow because Riley has a secret . If you have lawyers close at hand use them!

I <3 Hunter!

Great story with fun banter, a strong heroine and a hero who is sweet, patient and swoon worthy. There are some laugh out loud scenes and I loved the side characters. I love Iggy Toma's narration! As in his previous books I've listened to he is able to pull you right in and get you lost in the story. I also enjoyed Mackenzie Hart's narration, she does a great male voice but for me when she was narrating for Riley I felt she sounded too old.

Pretty good

I love the narrators for this book and grabbed the audio specifically for them! I have enjoyed this series-its good; not great. But, if you like smart characters you will enjoy the series overall.

All good except for female narration

It was very hard to picture Riley as a hot young chick as described in the story with an old lady speaking her parts of the book so every time they mentioned something along those lines I kinda got the willies. Other than that it was a good Story

These books turned out better than I ever expected the 4 of them to be!!! I like how each book basically made all of them family!! 🥰❤❤❤🥰

Once again a terrible female narrator

I couldn’t get past the first chapter when the heroine was voiced by what sounded like a pack-a-day smoking middle-aged woman. Ugh.

Beating the Witness

I had been enjoying this book until attorney Hunter decided to beat his lover Riley when she was down. His radical change in personality from loving brother and caring friend to violent asshole was confusing and disturbing.

Before that night, Hunter was a decent man who occasionally donated his services to abused women who were trying to escape their abusive partners. Likewise, Riley was a strong, confident business owner who didn't take shit from her anyone.

I can't imagine why female authors choose to portray domestic abuse and sexual violence as erotic or sexy, rather than serious crimes which destroy lives and degrade women. Real love does not leave bruises and broken bones...
