About this listen
Through 12 fascinating and spiritually edifying conferences, you will spend prayerful time with Jesus Christ, using the Gospel according to Luke. Your guide is Scripture expert Fr. Felix Just, SJ (PhD, Yale University).
Luke's Gospel presents a distinctive portrait of Jesus. In Luke, the Holy Spirit guides all the action and empowers the life and ministry of Jesus. Luke's Jesus is the Lord of all nations and the Savior of all peoples; so also, disciples are called to be just like Jesus, embracing all people regardless of social status, loving enemies, welcoming strangers, praising God, and praying for forgiveness.
This audio retreat program combines an insightful examination of Luke's Gospel with three methods of biblical prayer - reflective meditation, imaginative contemplation, and centering prayer - to help you grow in your relationship with Jesus. You can use this program in individual or small group settings, and it fits into a variety of schedules.
If you are looking for a thoughtful and uplifting biblical retreat to deepen your relationship with Jesus, you will love A Retreat with the Gospel of Luke. You will treasure the time spent each day with the Gospel of Luke and Fr. Felix Just.

Story
The four Gospels are foundational to Christianity. Yet Christian readers are often puzzled by the differences between the Gospels, preferring to harmonize the four into a single narrative. Now, this 24-part lecture course invites you to understand each Gospel's distinctive message. Along the way, you will examine theories about how the three Synoptic Gospels are related. You will also learn why the evangelists are symbolized by four living creatures: the man or angel, the lion, the ox, and the eagle.

Story
Many Christians today long to become reacquainted with their ancient ancestors in the faith. They see a deeper worship and devotion in the prayers and hymns of the early church. And they believe that the writings of the early church can shed new light on their understanding of Scripture. But where and how do we begin? Our first encounter with the writings of the church fathers may seem like visiting a far country where the language, assumptions, concerns, and conclusions are completely unfamiliar to us. Author Christopher Hall helps us through this cultural confusion.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Story
The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

Educational and spiritually powerful
Fr. Just is a Jesuit priest, New Testament scholar and retreat leader. I very much enjoyed his introductory course to the New Testament. This series was in some ways even more powerful. Fr. Just invites you to playfully encounter Christ through the Gospel of Luke. Each of the 12 segments is 25 minutes long; I found it helpful to listen to them each day in my car.
This series includes a free downloadable guide for prayer and reflection written by Fr. Just. I found the outlines and reflection questions thoughtful and well organized. Also, it contained a number of resources/suggested readings for further thought.
If you want to carve out meaningful time with Luke, this series is perfect. I highly recommend it.
