About this listen

Fresh insight into Luke’s timeless message from a celebrated Oxford professor and translator of the Greek Bible.

Sometimes called “the gospel of the poor”, the Gospel according to Luke is known for its praise of the lowly, its meditations on forgiveness, and its preoccupation with women. Beginning with the Infancy Narratives - in which Luke helpfully instructs us how to read his text - Catholic philosophy professor Father Nick King, S.J., elucidates the distinctive features of Luke’s Gospel in 12 inspiring audio lectures.

An erudite audio course, this series also helps you understand the gospel’s connection to Luke’s second volume, Acts of the Apostles. Fr. King shares with you an intriguing theory of the relationship between the two writings, as well as reflections on Luke’s attention to women, Luke’s idea of “hospitality”, the “Lucan Journey” in the context of our lives today, the distinction between forgiveness and repentance, and the question of Luke’s wealthy audience. You’ll also spend time examining Luke’s vision of Jesus.

Fr. King’s close reading of the Gospel according to Luke distills time-honored lessons for a modern audience with grace and cogency. Join his classroom from your home or car today.

This course is part of the Learn25 collection.

Wow!

Fr. King truly delivers with this insightful, upbeat course on Luke. A longtime Oxford professor and bible translator, King has the intellectual chops to make this series insightful and surprising even for those of us who have read Luke carefully for years. But his lively lectures are also inspiring and spiritually uplifting. I highly recommend this and his longer NT series by Learn25.

This lecture series is amazing. Fr King breaks down his coverage of Luke/Acts into a series of twelve lectures, each just under 30 minutes. I found each of these lectures to be eye-opening and i've been reading and studying Luke for years. Throughout this journey, Fr King helps us to understand what Luke was thinking (at least at Fr King understands it) and trying to tell his audience. At the end of each lecture, he poses three or four questions to the listener that challenges us to really reflect on our beliefs, our faith, and how we look our world.
