About this listen

A biker and a cowboy must stop the apocalypse in the first book of the Blood and Bone modern western fantasy series.

His voice was rich, a much loved baritone, as he handed his seven-year-old grandson a gun.

“It’s time we had a talk, you and I. You won’t remember it, but you need to know it, and one day, when it’s time, I’ll call it up in you. You’ll know who you are, and what you’re intended to do. You’ll be a soldier, boy. Sealed to it. Life and limb, blood and bone. Not a soldier like others are, for it’s not the kind of war most people fight on earth. But because we’re not ‘most people,’ you and I, it will be far more important. The fate of the world will hinge upon it.”

Now no longer that wide-eyed child, Gabe is fresh out of prison, a leather-clad biker answering Grandaddy’s peremptory summons to, of all places, a cowboy bar in Northern Arizona. He is about to find out just how different he is from “most people” - and to meet the stranger with whom he will be sealed: life and limb, blood and bone, conscripted to fight an unholy war unlike any other.

For the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.

When he does.

And Gabe, thrown into the unlikely company of a country-music-loving rodeo cowboy from West Texas, an ancient Celtic goddess of war, an African Orisha who sings volcanoes awake, a Chinese goddess of mercy, Nephilim, and Grigori, finds himself fighting a battle he was bred for, but wants no part of.

Interesting story line

while the story line to me was interesting, it can come across like a person trying real hard to show thier education. the cowboy isms were odd and far too many for me, I just wanted it to stop.

Slow build, great world building

I really enjoyed the take on urban fantasy. Loved how the author brought in the country western cowboy vibe. It gives this story something a little different than many of its breed.
I felt the story was some what slow in talking off, with overwhelming disbelief from Gab and not very much from his partner Remi at all. This was annoying to me because we are told that Gab is meant to be the leader (alpha) but in the first half of the book he seems a step behinds Remi, despite them entering the supernatural world at the same time.
Remi and Gab start off seeming like total opposites but the story brings them together in a fun and believable way.
All around a pretty good book.

Rich and entertaining

I had very low expectations from this title as it was included in the Audible Plus and those can be pretty much hit or miss. This book was very very good. The characters Remy and Gabe are endearing and thoroughly human. Since I can also be a Netflix binger, I was pleasantly surprised to find elements similar to "Lucifer" and "Supernatural." I felt immediate kinship :)
Highly recommend!

If you like Supernatural on CW….

Just plain fun. It scratched the Winchester itch. Enjoyed the distraction while doing chores and working out.

So much fun!

I was looking for something light and fun and I found it in this adventure. I love the characters and the intertwining of folklore, mythology and religions. I am really looking forward to the next book!

Disappointing Cut Off Point

Ugh! I really HATE IT!, when a Book just seemingly starts to get to the “good part”, and then it abruptly just ends, “Poof” Done! and I’m left wondering What the Heck just happened?

Because there is No Way!, the Author just ended this story right there! I have questions, Heck! the main characters have questions, and we haven’t even gotten to “the good part” yet!!’

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

What we know so far....2 little boys groomed to be soldiers, by a mysterious older man who goes by “Grandpa”, after hitting the age of majority (and then some), the boys are brought together to meet as men, where they are then linked together by Angelic powers they both share. One to act as the dominant, the myths & legends scholar, & physical warrior, while the Second is to act aa the subordinate & a Biblical & Languages scholar. Together the dynamic Duo, learn that they are both Soldiers in a War between Good & Evil, and it is their duty and mission to thwart Satan’s plans and the coming Apocalypse.
YET, those who are in “the know”, various types of Angels, Ancient Gods/Deities, etc., are far from eager to explain to the DD, the actual “How To” of hunting and killing demonic monsters. The DD are basically pointed in a direction and told, ““Go Forth & Kill Bad Guys”, Good Luck!

When the “How To”, such as, performing specific rights, in specific dead ancient languages, while standing in very specific poses, are all completely skipped over & are never really explained, so the Dynamic Duo just seem to stumble along from one encounter to the next, barely surviving from one moment to the next..
Then...someone starts sending them mysterious envelopes..
• Envelopes 1+2= were both just creepy sayings/phrases
• Envelopes 3+4 = were horrific photos of obviously murdered women, each more brutally slain than the last, and each with only their 1st name written on the back.
• Envelope 5 = Same as Envelopes 3+4, Except..that it accompanied a box, and in that box was the partial liver (I think, but I can’t actually remember.)
AND THEN WHAMO!! that’s it, the Book Ended..😱
