Publisher's summary

It's been over a year since all the adults disappeared. Gone.

In the time since every person over the age of 14 disappeared from the town of Perdido Beach, California, countless battles have been fought: battles against hunger and lies and plague, and epic battles of good against evil. Light, Michael Grant's sixth and final book in the New York Times best-selling Gone series, creates a masterful, arresting conclusion to life in the FAYZ.

And now, the gaiaphage has been reborn as Diana's malicious mutant daughter, Gaia. Gaia is endlessly hungry for destruction. She yearns to conquer her nemesis, Little Pete, and then bend the entire world to her warped will. As long-standing enemies become allies, secrets are revealed and unexpected sacrifices are made. Will their attempts to save themselves and one another matter in the end, or will the kids of Perdido Beach perish in this final power struggle?

Captivating story line

This does was great and hard to stop listening. What challenges will they encounter next. How will they survive? Will they survive? How will they cope? Will they be able to work together to defeat and conquer or will these events tear them apart. Good, evil, struggle, survival, and the courage to stay alive and do the best to help others all while making decisions no child/teen should ever have to make.

Nice tie in

Really like how the author reflected back on the significance on all the characters in the book. With it being a 6 part series it felt very nice to remember the growth of everyone and the story line progression.

Still on the emotional roller-coaster

Oh wow what an emotional roller-coaster. One that left me in tears as I concluded the last chapters at lunch during work.

Grant really did a great job on this series. He created a world that made me want to come back to time and time again, even though it was a devastating and horrible world. He created characters that I cared about and had real feelings toward. I needed to know how they would fair. I found myself wondering, when I was out of book, if some would change. Most of all I was curious who would make it out of the Fayze. Some of these questions left me with a broken heart.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this book was, but I have done that for the five books that lead up to this book. Instead I want to talk about some of the characters and how I felt during their journey - without too many spoilers.

Lets start with Quinn. First I loved him, then I hated him and in the end he was one of my favorites.

Albert, first he was okay, then he was awful but in the end that little guy made my breath hitch in my throat and tears roll down my cheek.

Cain...gosh...Cain. He is one of the most complicated characters in this story. I absolutely hated him through the series, but he was a worthy villain and the dynamic between he and Sam was interesting. Let's not forget to mention his relationship with Dianna. In the end he also choked me up and sent me into a series of silent sobs. #TheLetters

The Breeze AKA Brianna. That girl. She was a pain in the tookus and conceited, thinking she was the best of the best, but she was brave. In the end - selfless.

Then there is Dekka. I think she was my constant favorite all through the series. She may have come from Coats Academy, but when you find out why she was there you may be as annoyed as I was, but she had a Perdido Beach heart since her introduction. Her and Sam's friendship was the highlight to the series even over Sam and Astrid's love. I see she is going to be in the 2nd book of the spin-off trilogy Monster, and I am excited to read more about her.

Lastly we have Sam and Astrid. The story wouldn't' have been the same without Astrid, but she was always a constant meh for me, but Sam...Sam was a worthy hero. He was complicated and simple but most of all he was a fifteen year old boy put into a horrible situation and he made due.

There were a lot more characters that I could ramble about, but these were the main ones I wanted to mention.

This series is worth the read and I for one am excited for the spin-off.

What are you doing still reading this...go, pick up Gone now!

Masterful writing, masterful narration.

I hate it when I read reviews on the series, and all I see is people hating on Kyle McCarley. His narration is top-tier… The way he portrays emotion, true emotion, is absolutely incredible. Whenever there is a moment of climax, where there is extreme panic or sadness or anger or any other strong emotion, Kyle absolutely kills it every single time and I can’t imagine any other voice actor being able to do it the way he does. By far the single best narrator I have ever been blessed enough to hear, and I will never hear anyone else narrate as masterfully as he does.I would actually love to meet him just to see his process when he narrates, because I could cry right now at how perfect he is, And yet people don’t like the way he says a couple words 😤🙄

Anyway, I adore him and Michael Grant. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Entertaining at Any Age

I am a 74 year old woman and I enjoyed the entire Gone Series. The Narrator Kyle McCarley is ok be of the best I have ever experienced. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

Worthy Ending

Never have I read a book series that was able to keep my intrigue and the quality of narrative, plot and character the way that this series has! Endings are always hard but this was the most satisfying ending to series (a series I loved ) that I have ever read!

The Story is Great

But not the narration. The narrator decided to adopt a wheezy, whiny accent/ cadence for the general narration (listen to anytime he read the words "he said" or "she said" which sounded more like "he saaiiyyd") which was beyond annoying. It was clearly not his normal voice as he was able to adopt relatively neutral accents for characters and his accent was pretty neutral as he read the end credits and legalese notes. Other than having to get used to the way this narrator chose to dictate the story (which honestly made me want to quit listening on more than one occasion), the story itself was great.

Amazing Book! Bad Actor.

The book and the series as a whole is absolutely amazing. Sadly, the voice actor wasnt fitting. The voices he gave the characters were way too emphasized and unrealistic, and the emphasis he puts on random words when characters arent talking makes it hard to focus on the story.
